The weekend of May 9th & 10th saw the BDS<br />

show take place on the magnificent Erddig<br />

Park Dressage Arena by kind permission of the<br />

National Trust. The Carriage <strong>Driving</strong> <strong>Show</strong> was<br />

a huge success with more competitors forward<br />

than last year’s event.<br />

Saturday May 9th saw Mrs King of Derbyshire<br />

step into the ring to judge the classes, that went<br />

ahead in windy but dry conditions<br />

NOVICE LONG REINING attracted 4 entries<br />

with Sue Cole of Weeping Cross, Stafford in 1st<br />

place, driving Valcq Redwood Reflection.<br />

LONG REINING saw 9 entries with the<br />

winner’s ribbon going to Rachel Thomas of<br />

Penmaenmawr driving Gorsehill Jenga. Rachel<br />

also took both the Long Reining & Novice<br />

Whip Championships with Gorsehill Jenga.<br />

GROOMS CLASS with 4 entries, plus Junior<br />

whip class also went to Rachel Thomas driving<br />

Gorsehill Jenga.<br />

LADY WHIP with 6 entries went to Sue Cole<br />

driving Valcq Redwood Reflection, as did the<br />

Ride & Drive class (ridden) plus RIDE &<br />

DRIVE (Driven)<br />

GENTLEMAN WHIP was awarded to Tony<br />

Tharme of Penmaenmawr <strong>Driving</strong> Wally.<br />

OPEN DISABLED DRIVING Jackie Claydon<br />

of Dolwen, Conway driving Llynhelyg Tomos<br />

Reserve went Kelly Rush from Lavister nr<br />

Wrexham with Magic.<br />

Sunday May 10th was the formal show day<br />

under the watchful eye of BDS Judge Mr AF<br />

King also from Derbyshire and again drew<br />

excellent entries. Sunday’s weather was ideal for<br />

<strong>Driving</strong>.<br />

SMALL EXERCISE VEHICLE with 8 forward<br />

went to Rachel Thomas from Penmaenmawr<br />

driving Gorsehill Jenga.<br />

LARGE EXERCISE VEHICLE with 5 entries<br />

saw Janet Prytherch of Dolwen Abergele driving<br />

Llynhelyg Tomos take 1st.<br />

With the showing season upon us it’s all go<br />

at the moment; let’s hope it will stay dry this<br />

season.<br />

On the 12th April we and several area members<br />

attended neighbouring area 37’s art of carriage<br />

driving day, it was a lovely sunny day with a<br />

good variety of demos going on throughout the<br />

day. The highlight was seeing Mark Evans going<br />

out with his Friesian stallions in the Lonsdale<br />

park drag coach. On the 26th April we held<br />

our indoor cones event nr. Llanberis with very<br />

good entries in all the classes. Novice cones;<br />

1st Corrina Jones; 2nd Penny Wear; 3rd Pat<br />

Tharme. Open cones; 1st Colin Walmsley; 2nd<br />

Sharne Bellis; 3rd Tilda Manson. Relay cones;<br />

1st T. Manson & C. Walmsley; 2nd S. Bellis &<br />

A. Drinkwater-lunn; 3rd M. Ferne & C. Jones.<br />

PLEASURE DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP<br />

was awarded to Janet Prytherch with Rachel<br />

Thomas reserve champion.<br />

VETERAN CLASS drew 5 entries and 1st<br />

was awarded to Ann Staniland of Cleobury<br />

Mortimer, Worcs driving Starbyte Little Trojan<br />

who at the age of 20 was awarded the Oldest<br />

Pony rosette.<br />

REGISTERED MOUNTAIN &<br />

MOORLAND went to Willowe Keeley from<br />

Albrighton,Wolverhampton driving Clothie<br />

Tumbell.<br />

REGISTERED WELSH, saw Ruth Lancaster<br />

of Congleton with Brambridge Bright Spark<br />

take 1st place.<br />

OPEN MOUNTAIN &MOORLAND with 6<br />

entries went to Janet Prytherch with Llynhelig<br />

Tomos.<br />

SMALL AMATEUR PRODUCED had<br />

7 entries with Alison Owen from Bangor,<br />

Gwynedd with Brynmor take 1st place.<br />

Janet Williams thanked all competitors for<br />

taking part in the two day event and a special<br />

vote of thanks was given to volunteers for<br />

stewarding and to Steve Griffiths Erddig<br />

Countryside Manager and his staff for<br />

preparation of the International standard<br />

Equine arena which can not be surpassed<br />

anywhere in Wales, and to the Trustees at<br />

Erddig for use of the excellent facilities.<br />

Our next event was our area Trec with 6 entries<br />

forward. We had a BBQ on the Saturday<br />

evening and held the Trec on Sunday, it was a<br />

lovely weekend weather wise and I would like<br />

to thank Janet and all our helpers on the day.<br />

This event was a qualifier this year for the BDS<br />

Wales Trec championship to be held in Sept.<br />

The first 3 qualified. 1st Peta & Elfyn Ellis;<br />

2nd Jenni & Paul Frost; 3rd Colin & Lynn<br />

Walmsley; 4th Fay Sanders & Gwyn Thomas;<br />

5th Mavis McBride; 6th Diane Rimmer.<br />

The following weekend we held our 2nd drive<br />

of the year in Newborough forest, with 11<br />

turnouts taking part, once again it was a nice<br />

sunny day and great off road driving.
