The weekend of May 9th & 10th saw the BDS
show take place on the magnificent Erddig
Park Dressage Arena by kind permission of the
National Trust. The Carriage Driving Show was
a huge success with more competitors forward
than last year’s event.
Saturday May 9th saw Mrs King of Derbyshire
step into the ring to judge the classes, that went
ahead in windy but dry conditions
NOVICE LONG REINING attracted 4 entries
with Sue Cole of Weeping Cross, Stafford in 1st
place, driving Valcq Redwood Reflection.
LONG REINING saw 9 entries with the
winner’s ribbon going to Rachel Thomas of
Penmaenmawr driving Gorsehill Jenga. Rachel
also took both the Long Reining & Novice
Whip Championships with Gorsehill Jenga.
GROOMS CLASS with 4 entries, plus Junior
whip class also went to Rachel Thomas driving
Gorsehill Jenga.
LADY WHIP with 6 entries went to Sue Cole
driving Valcq Redwood Reflection, as did the
Ride & Drive class (ridden) plus RIDE &
DRIVE (Driven)
GENTLEMAN WHIP was awarded to Tony
Tharme of Penmaenmawr Driving Wally.
OPEN DISABLED DRIVING Jackie Claydon
of Dolwen, Conway driving Llynhelyg Tomos
Reserve went Kelly Rush from Lavister nr
Wrexham with Magic.
Sunday May 10th was the formal show day
under the watchful eye of BDS Judge Mr AF
King also from Derbyshire and again drew
excellent entries. Sunday’s weather was ideal for
Driving.
SMALL EXERCISE VEHICLE with 8 forward
went to Rachel Thomas from Penmaenmawr
driving Gorsehill Jenga.
LARGE EXERCISE VEHICLE with 5 entries
saw Janet Prytherch of Dolwen Abergele driving
Llynhelyg Tomos take 1st.

With the showing season upon us it’s all go
at the moment; let’s hope it will stay dry this
season.
On the 12th April we and several area members
attended neighbouring area 37’s art of carriage
driving day, it was a lovely sunny day with a
good variety of demos going on throughout the
day. The highlight was seeing Mark Evans going
out with his Friesian stallions in the Lonsdale
park drag coach. On the 26th April we held
our indoor cones event nr. Llanberis with very
good entries in all the classes. Novice cones;
1st Corrina Jones; 2nd Penny Wear; 3rd Pat
Tharme. Open cones; 1st Colin Walmsley; 2nd
Sharne Bellis; 3rd Tilda Manson. Relay cones;
1st T. Manson & C. Walmsley; 2nd S. Bellis &
A. Drinkwater-lunn; 3rd M. Ferne & C. Jones.

8 entries, 1st going to Sue Cole of Weeping
Cross, Stafford driving Jim.
OPEN PLEASURE 5 entries also went to Janet
Prytherch of Dolwen Abergele with Llynhelyg
Tomos.
PLEASURE DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP
was awarded to Janet Prytherch with Rachel
Thomas reserve champion.
VETERAN CLASS drew 5 entries and 1st
was awarded to Ann Staniland of Cleobury
Mortimer, Worcs driving Starbyte Little Trojan
who at the age of 20 was awarded the Oldest
Pony rosette.
REGISTERED MOUNTAIN &
MOORLAND went to Willowe Keeley from
Albrighton,Wolverhampton driving Clothie
Tumbell.
REGISTERED WELSH, saw Ruth Lancaster
of Congleton with Brambridge Bright Spark
take 1st place.
OPEN MOUNTAIN &MOORLAND with 6
entries went to Janet Prytherch with Llynhelig
Tomos.
SMALL AMATEUR PRODUCED had
7 entries with Alison Owen from Bangor,
Gwynedd with Brynmor take 1st place.

DRIVING this class attracted 4 entries and
went to Ruth Lancaster driving Brambridge

Janet Williams thanked all competitors for
taking part in the two day event and a special
vote of thanks was given to volunteers for
stewarding and to Steve Griffiths Erddig
Countryside Manager and his staff for
preparation of the International standard
Equine arena which can not be surpassed
anywhere in Wales, and to the Trustees at
Erddig for use of the excellent facilities.

Our next event was our area Trec with 6 entries
forward. We had a BBQ on the Saturday
evening and held the Trec on Sunday, it was a
lovely weekend weather wise and I would like
to thank Janet and all our helpers on the day.
This event was a qualifier this year for the BDS
Wales Trec championship to be held in Sept.
The first 3 qualified. 1st Peta & Elfyn Ellis;
2nd Jenni & Paul Frost; 3rd Colin & Lynn
Walmsley; 4th Fay Sanders & Gwyn Thomas;
5th Mavis McBride; 6th Diane Rimmer.
The following weekend we held our 2nd drive
of the year in Newborough forest, with 11
turnouts taking part, once again it was a nice
sunny day and great off road driving.
