The Greek word that is translated “judgment” in this text is krisis, the word from which we derive our English word crisis. A definition of crisis is “the point in a disease or trauma when it is determined if the patient will live or die.” This Scripture could thus have been translated, “It is time for a crisis to begin with the household of God.” The implication is that the church will go through a crisis before the world does. God allows this so that when the world is going through a crisis, we will be on solid ground. This is why James wrote the following: My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing (James 1:2-4 NKJV). Here we see that trials produce patience, which leads to our perfection so that we will not lack anything. That is true biblical prosperity. “The earth is the LORD’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1). Even though it is presently subject to bondage because of the Fall, the Lord is going to take this world back. We have been called to be a part of His invasion force, but we can only be on one side 13
in this battle. We must now get free of every yoke of the enemy that causes us in any way to compromise the ways of the kingdom of God. The trials we are now going through are all meant to help us do this. The Lord is not the least bit worried about the economy or any other human problems. We are called to be seated with Him in the heavenly places (see Ephesians 2:6). Our Lord will never lack the resources to do what He wants to do. Neither will we ever lack the resources to do what He wants us to do. the mark of the beast and the mark of god Because “the love of money is the root of all evil” (see I Timothy 6:10 KJV), money tests some of the ultimate issues of the human heart. Idolatry is one of the ultimate offenses against God. Money is one of the primary idols in the world today. An idol is not just something that people fear or worship, but what they put their trust in. Money in itself is not evil, but how we relate to it can be a factor that determines the entire course of our lives for good or evil. Many sincere Christians still have idolatry in their hearts in relation to money because they trust more in their jobs or bank accounts than they do in the Lord.
