Of the many people I have met with
exceptional spiritual giftings but with the
lack of spiritual fruit, this has always been a
prevailing characteristic in their lives. They
had judged and criticized the ministries of
others who were gaining influence and had
thereby disqualified themselves from being
able to receive more. Our criticisms will bring
us to poverty. “Death and life are in the
power of the tongue, and those who love
it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
Solomon observed:
But the path of the just is like
the shining sun, that shines ever
brighter unto the perfect day.
The way of the wicked is like
darkness; they do not know what
makes them stumble (Proverbs
4:18-19 NKJV).
If we are walking in righteousness, we
will be walking in increasing light. Those
who stumble around in the dark seldom
know the reason for that darkness, or they
would not be in it. However, a critical person
is a prideful person who will therefore be
critical of everyone but himself because he
cannot see his own sin. As the Lord stated,
he is so busy looking for specks in the eyes
of his brothers that he cannot see the big log
in his own eye, which is the reason for his
blindness (see Matthew 7:3-5).
