understanding of the sacrifice of Jesus for
their sins, but they still go on living their
lives for themselves. We were the slaves
of sin and were purchased by the cross.
If we are Christ’s, we are no longer our
own, for we belong to Him. A bondslave
does not live for himself, but for his master.
This commitment is not just an intellectual
agreement with certain biblical principles;
it is the commitment to a radical lifestyle of
obedience.
A bondservant does not have any money
or time of his own, and he cannot freely spend
what he has been entrusted with since it is
not his. Even his family belongs to his master.
To voluntarily become a slave is the ultimate
commitment that can be made in this world,
which is what it really means to embrace the
cross. Those who are truly bondslaves are the
ones who will receive His mark.
Even though the Lord purchased us with
His blood, He will not force anyone to be
His bondservant. In Scripture, a bondservant
was one who was able to go free, but loved
his master so much that he chose to be his
slave for the rest of his life. We, too, are
free to choose whether or not we will be
bondservants. God allows us to choose
whether or not we will serve Him because
freedom is required for true worship and
true obedience from the heart. There can
be no obedience from the heart unless
there is the freedom to disobey.
