Animal Kingdom’s two-length victory in last Saturday’s Dubai World
Cup was the first USA-trained success in the race since it has been held
on the synthetic Tapeta surface at Meydan. The versatile five-year-old
has won on dirt, turf and a variety of synthetic tracks include Polytrack
and Tapeta. The win took his career earnings to US$8.3million.
The Graham Motion trained Animal Kingdom won the 2011
Kentucky Derby and and was crowned USA Champion Three-Year-Old
that year, and as a Four-Year-Old, at his first start for almost nine months,
Animal Kingdom finished an unlucky second to USA Horse of the Year
Wise Dan (Wiseman’s Ferry) in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr 1, 1m) on turf
at Santa Anita in course-record time last November.
From his 11 career starts to date, Animal Kingdom has won five
times and been place second five times. He is the best son to date
of the triple Grade One winner Leroidesanimaux (Candy Stripes), who

was trained in the US by the late Bobby Frankel and now stands at
stud in Florida. Animal Kingdom’s dam, Dalicia is a Group Three winning
daughter of Acatenango (Surumu), whilst his second dam, Dynamis is a
winning daughter of Dancing Brave (Lyphard), who is herself a daughter
of Diasprina (Aspros), a 2YO Champion Filly in Germany who produced
11 winners from 12 foals.
At a celebration of Animal Kingdom’s Dubai World Cup win hosted by
Arrowfield in their marquee at the sales yesterday evening both Messara
and Tait stated that plans are yet to be finalised but it is possible that he
will run in England at Royal Ascot in June, with his likely target being
the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr 1, 1m).
