<strong>GKN</strong> Drivel<strong>in</strong>e develops, manufactures and supplies<br />

the most extensive and widely used range of<br />

automotive drivel<strong>in</strong>e components for light vehicles,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g driveshafts, geared components and torque<br />

management devices. The European <strong>in</strong>dustrial and<br />

distribution services bus<strong>in</strong>ess (IDS) provides a range<br />

of components to the passenger vehicle aftermarket,<br />

and repairs and replaces heavy duty propshafts.<br />

The bus<strong>in</strong>ess, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g jo<strong>in</strong>t ventures, operates from<br />

over 40 locations <strong>in</strong> more than 30 countries.<br />

Other Automotive companies manufacture structural<br />

components, eng<strong>in</strong>e cyl<strong>in</strong>der l<strong>in</strong>ers and substrates<br />

for catalytic converters for light vehicle and truck<br />

applications through subsidiaries and jo<strong>in</strong>t ventures<br />

<strong>in</strong> the UK, Germany, the US, Ch<strong>in</strong>a and India.<br />

<strong>GKN</strong> Drivel<strong>in</strong>e is the global leader <strong>in</strong> the production<br />

of constant velocity jo<strong>in</strong>ted (CVJ) products for light<br />

vehicles, with approximately 41% global market<br />

share. Its share of global demand for premium<br />

propshafts is around 18% and it is one of the world’s<br />

lead<strong>in</strong>g suppliers of mechanically and electronically<br />

controlled torque management systems and<br />

associated geared components. The customer base<br />

is wide and <strong>in</strong>cludes all the world’s major motor<br />

manufactur<strong>in</strong>g groups.<br />

<strong>GKN</strong> S<strong>in</strong>ter Metals uses powdered metals to<br />

manufacture precision automotive components<br />

for eng<strong>in</strong>es, transmissions, and body and chassis<br />

applications. It also produces a range of components for<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustrial and consumer applications, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g power<br />

tools, bear<strong>in</strong>gs, white goods and garden equipment. The<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess operates from 29 locations <strong>in</strong> Western Europe,<br />

North and South America, India, Ch<strong>in</strong>a and South Africa.<br />

Hoeganaes produces metal powders, largely ferrous<br />

based, used <strong>in</strong> the manufacture of s<strong>in</strong>tered components.<br />

Manufacture takes place <strong>in</strong> Europe and <strong>in</strong> North<br />

America, where it is the largest producer of ferrous<br />

metal powder.<br />

<strong>GKN</strong> S<strong>in</strong>ter Metals is the world’s largest manufacturer<br />

of s<strong>in</strong>tered components with an estimated 15%<br />

global market share, around twice that of its nearest<br />

competitors. Approximately 80% of its sales are<br />

to automotive customers, with around 29%, either<br />

directly or <strong>in</strong>directly, to the North American operations<br />

of Chrysler, Ford and General Motors, and the balance<br />

to a wide range of other <strong>in</strong>dustrial customers.<br />

Hoeganaes has an estimated 50% share of the metal<br />

powder market <strong>in</strong> North America. Some 45% of<br />

its powder production is sold to our own s<strong>in</strong>ter<strong>in</strong>g<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess with the balance to other US, European and<br />

Asian customers.<br />
