4.0 THE VASCULAR FLORA OF THE NATCHEZ TRACE PARKWAY The following table enumerates the extant vascular plant taxa found within the boundaries of the NATR. The names on the list represent taxa considered present or probably present (in accordance with current NPS definitions) and are based on documented voucher specimens. Voucher specimens for these taxa are curated at the Natchez Trace Parkway Headquarters in Tupelo, Mississippi, or at the S. M. Tracy Herbarium (TAES), Texas A & M University, College Station, Texas. Identifications linked to vouchers at NATR Headquarters were provided by NATR staff. Therefore, with the exception of the vouchers in sub-section 3.3.10 above, all NATR voucher identifications have not been independently verified by the authors and are assumed to be accurate. Identifications of vouchers at TAES were verified by the authors in the course of this inventory. Organization of Checklist Vouchers on the checklist were identified at the lowest taxonomic level possible. Therefore, some extant vouchers identified at higher taxonomic levels may not be included on the list. The taxa and common name(s), if any, are listed alphabetically by division and family. Within families, taxa are listed alphabetically by genus, specific epithet, and subspecific epithets, with authorities given for all taxa. Taxa listed without superscripts are taxa collected by TAES in the course of this inventory. Taxa designated with a 1 are vouchers collected by the NATR staff and are housed at NATR Headquarters in Tupelo, MS. Taxa designated with a 2 are recorded as being present in NPSpecies, the NPS online database (NPSpecies 2006). An alphabetical listing, by genus, of the following checklist is provided in Appendix D. Explanation of Columns In the checklist that follows, individual taxon data is arranged in columns, and where applicable, the following abbreviations are utilized.
