Pidding Reserve Quadrat<br />

<strong>Ryde</strong> Flora <strong>and</strong> Fauna Survey <strong>2007</strong> 137<br />
This quadrat is located within a reserve dominated by Eucalyptus pilularis <strong>and</strong><br />
Angophora costata with an understory <strong>of</strong> Glochidion ferdin<strong>and</strong>i <strong>and</strong> Allocasuarina<br />
littoralis with E. resinifera within the quadrat. This Open Woodl<strong>and</strong> occurs on<br />
Mittagong Formation above Hawkesbury S<strong>and</strong>stone geology <strong>and</strong> the soil is s<strong>and</strong>y but<br />
with a high clay content. The area in which the quadrat is located has been damaged<br />
by erosion but despite this the number <strong>of</strong> native plant species within the quadrat is<br />
unusually high (60 species). The quadrat qualifies for both Map Unit 43: Turpentine<br />
Ironbark Margin Forest (13/11 positive diagnostic species) as well as Map Unit 33:<br />
Western S<strong>and</strong>stone Gully Forest (27/27 diagnostic species). Rabbits are a major<br />
threat to the regeneration <strong>of</strong> vegetation as well as the erosion.<br />
