Formatting <strong>Widgets</strong> <strong>Dashboards</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Widgets</strong> <strong>Creation</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

The table below lists the different aspects of the Data Cloud widget that you<br />

can format, <strong>and</strong> describes the steps to format them in <strong>MicroStrategy</strong> Web.<br />

The steps can be performed in Flash Mode. They can also be performed in<br />

Interactive Mode if the widget has been defined to display as a widget in<br />

DHTML, <strong>and</strong> DHTML is enabled in Web. For steps to determine how the<br />

widget is displayed, see Defining how a widget is displayed in different<br />

views <strong>and</strong> modes, page 285. For steps to enable DHTML, see the<br />

<strong>MicroStrategy</strong> Web Help.<br />

What to Format in the Widget How to Format It<br />

Whether the attribute elements in the<br />

widget are sorted alphabetically<br />

Alignment of the data cloud within the<br />

widget’s borders<br />

Define the equation used to determine<br />

the size of attribute elements<br />

Font size of the smallest attribute<br />

element in the widget<br />

1 In Flash Mode or Interactive Mode, right-click the widget<br />

<strong>and</strong> select Properties. The Data Cloud dialog box opens.<br />

2 To sort the attribute elements alphabetically, select the<br />

Sort Alphabetically check box.<br />

3 Click OK to save the changes.<br />

2 Select Align Left, Align Right, or Justify from the<br />

Alignment drop-down list.<br />

2 Select Square Root, Logarithm, or Linear from the<br />

Equation drop-down list:<br />

• Square Root: Select this option to display your data in<br />

abrupt increments. Selecting this option is beneficial if you<br />

have large value differences between each set of data in<br />

the widget.<br />

• Logarithm: Select this option to display your data in<br />

gradual, smoother increments. Selecting this option is<br />

beneficial if you are using percentage data that drops<br />

below 0%.<br />

• Linear: Select this option to display your data as a<br />

weighted average. For example, if you want to display the<br />

average sales data for each month of the year, or the<br />

average profit for Q1 2007, this option is beneficial.<br />

3 Click OK to save the changes.<br />

1 In Flash Mode or Interactive Mode, right-click the widget<br />

<strong>and</strong> select Properties. The Data Cloud dialog box opens.<br />

2 Select or type the font size (1-15) in the Minimum Font<br />

Size (1-15) field.<br />

3 Click OK to save the changes. The font size of the smallest<br />

attribute element is changed; all other attribute elements<br />

are sized proportionally.<br />
