HISTORY, ART & CULTURE
COME TO LIFE!
TRaIlS OF 1885
The Northwest Resistance took place on the
prairies and parkland of western Canada in the spring
of 1885. Its story is told in chapters everywhere from
Winnipeg in Manitoba to Fort Saskatchewan in Alberta.
Much of this real life drama played out right here
in Saskatchewan, where Métis and First Nations each
have their own stories of confrontations and battles
with government forces as well as the subsequent
fallout and its impact on Canadian history.
These stories are told at locations ranging from
major interpretive centres to remote meadows and
hillsides where solitary historic markers recount an
almost mystical past. Find out more about the sites
which tell and preserve these stories by visiting:
Fostering a Vision
For Canada
Summer 2013 will unveil “Touch the Sky: The Story
of Avro Canada.” Today, the names Avro and Arrow
have become virtually synonymous with each other.
This exhibit encourages visitors to explore the debate
and conflicting points of view over the cancellation of
the arrow, and to focus on the lesser known history of
Avro Canada.
Alongside the replica rooms and permanent
exhibit highlighting the Rt. Hon. John G. Diefenbaker’s
legacy, visitors can explore a vibrant cultural institution
celebrating citizenship, leadership, human rights and
Canada’s role in the international community. The
gallery is open Monday to Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to
8 p.m., Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekends
and holidays from noon- 5 p.m.
The Community Campus Tour program offers
the public an opportunity to explore the University
of Saskatchewan campus. Free, guided walking
tours depart at 1 p.m. every Wednesday and Sunday
afternoon in June, July and August.
