THE waNUSKEwIN HERITagE paRK: The Nature Of This place The perfect family adventure! Wanuskewin Heritage Park invites you to experience First Nations Cultures through, art, song, dance and cuisine. Inside our Interpretive Center, Wanuskewin is home to two art galleries, as well as fascinating interpretive exhibits. Choose from a number of interpretive programs, such as “Tipi Raising” or “First Nations Technology”. Our knowledgeable interpretive staff will explain the history and traditions, and why First Nations people have chosen to gather here for over 6000 years! Outside Wanuskewin offers four unique hiking trails that crisscross the Opimahaw Valley, featuring a sacred medicine wheel, a buffalo jump and some of the most scenic views on the prairies. MEEwaSIN VallEy INTERpRETIVE CENTRE The Meewasin Valley Interpretive Centre, located along the scenic South Saskatchewan River, at the base of the Traffic Bridge, is an excellent starting point for your exploration of Saskatoon. The Centre focuses on human settlement in Saskatoon and the natural history of the South Saskatchewan River Valley. The Centre offers visitors interactive exhibits, self-guided tours and information about sites throughout the city. It features tours for groups on the Meewasin Trail, children’s programs throughout the summer and Sunday programs with a heritage focus. The Centre’s hour of operations are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and holidays. wESTERN dEVElOpMENT MUSEUM Get a glimpse into the past with a visit to the Western Development Museum’s 1910 Boomtown, home of North America’s longest indoor street! As you stroll through the buildings, imagine life during those times – the echo of the blacksmith’s hammer striking the anvil, the clipclop of horses on the street, the rumble of the steam locomotive pulling into the station. In the Transportation Gallery, you will discover vintage wagons, buggies and automobiles that will take you back in time. The WDM’s Seasonal Display Area features agricultural equipment with an impressive line-up of steam traction engines, gasoline tractors and threshing equipment. Step inside a real sod-house, laugh at the sights and sounds of a 1920s Funhouse, take a ride in a Bennett Buggy, admire the workmanship of an Eaton’s catalogue house and peruse the Popular Culture Wall in the Winning The Prairie Gamble: Farm Life in Saskatchewan exhibit. A visit to the Museum is not complete without a stop in the gift shop. Browse through displays of Saskatchewan made products and treasures of our times. Then step into the Boomtown Café, period 1910, and enjoy old-fashioned hospitality and tasty treats. THE MaRR RESIdENCE Over 100 years ago, during May, June and the early part of July of 1885, this simple, two-storey frame house earned a special place in the history of Saskatoon and the history of Canada’s great Northwest. It was here at the Marr Residence that many wounded soldiers of the Northwest Resistance were treated. The Marr Residence is the oldest house in Saskatoon still on its original site. Beginning on July 1, this historic home will be open for tours and programs every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and Monday of each long weekend from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is your chance to explore a part of Saskatoon’s fascinating history.
