“We have the kind of vibrancy downtown in the evening that big cities like Vancouver and Montreal have. That’s because there are things to do downtown.” Terry Scadden, executive director of The Partnership he can disclose. “Congress Beer House will be opening at 215 Second Avenue South, across from O’Shea’s Irish Pub. Basically right next door to it, there will be another New Orleans-style restaurant opening up,” says Scadden. A Google search of Congress Beer House reveals the downtown establishment will offer a menu showcasing local ingredients as well as having over 30 local beers on tap. “I’ve had confidential conversations with several people who are looking for restaurant/lounge opportunities in the downtown. I know that there are lots of people who are certainly looking to open restaurants in downtown Saskatoon. Space is at a premium; there’s no doubt about it. Without somebody building some new space, I don’t know that there’s any restaurant space that would be coming up available. There’s very little retail space as well.
