FLEET MANAGEMENT BEST PRACTICES
VEMA 101
VEMA recommends that you follow industry best practices when managing your fl eet.
1. Keep your vehicles in good condition
Vehicles that have been maintained throughout their lives bring higher resale
values, saving you money on your lease settlements.
2. Rotate vehicles regularly
Rotating high and low-use vehicles allows you to balance uneven use and
ensure you’re on target with each vehicle’s lease term.
3. Adhere to your replacement cycle and maintain a younger fleet
Younger vehicles are under warranty, cost less to operate, and signifi cantly
reduce unscheduled driver down-time. They’re also more environmentally
friendly since their emission levels are lower.
4. Consider the environment
Remember to consider the principles of the Government’s Sustainable
Development Procurement Guidelines. When choosing a vehicle, keep in
mind its impact on the environment. Emissions from vehicles contribute to air
quality problems and greenhouse gases that add to climate change.
5. Reduce the cost of short-term travel
Lease a shared vehicle or group of vehicles where you have drivers who rent or
submit reimbursements for business use of their personal vehicles regularly. You’ll
reduce the amount you spend on rental vehicles and driver reimbursements.
