in the other world? Do you mean sitting in the silence<br />

and sending out loving, helpful thoughts to them?<br />

Answer: The ability to send out a thought and the<br />

power that that thought has to accomplish the purpose<br />

for which it is sent, depends upon the definiteness where-<br />

with the thinker is able to visualize that which he desires<br />

to accomplish. And the usual occult schools, particularly<br />

those along the lines of Eastern thought, advise the method<br />

of concentration whereby thoughts are focused upon one<br />

single point, as the rays of the sun are brought<br />

to a focus<br />

in a magnifying glass, for thus their forces are massed,<br />

and as the sun's rays will burn when focused, so will the<br />

thought invariably accomplish its object when concentrated<br />

to a sufficient intensity.<br />

It takes long practice, however, to learn how to do that,<br />

and there are very few people in the West who are able to<br />

thus direct their thoughts to any purpose. The western<br />

religion, recognizing this disability, teaches another method<br />

which is much more efficient than concentration, namely,<br />

prayer.<br />

Therefore, if we wish to help those who have passed<br />

out of the body, we may pray earnestly for their welfare<br />

and that they may learn the lessons of this life thoroughly<br />

in their experiences in Purgatory and the First Heaven;<br />

then we shall accomplish much more than if we try the<br />

cold, intellectual method of concentration. The attitude<br />

of the body sometimes has a great deal to do with the<br />

intensity of the prayer, and if a kneeling position seems
