altruism and love that will liberate the Earth Spirit from<br />

the cramping conditions of material existence, when the<br />

necessity for guiding us shall have passed away.<br />

We are told that "God so loved tlie world that He gave<br />

reconcile that idea with tltc words of Christ, "1 came not to<br />

animals and other men. But he perceives around him the<br />

nature powers, and of them he is afraid, for he knows their<br />

ability to kill and his own impotence to cope with them. He
