in order to follow that object, but it is necessary to be an<br />

occultist in order to follow out the third object of the<br />

Theosophical Society, namely, the study of the unexplained<br />

laws of nature and the powers latent in man.<br />

Therefore, the Rosicmeians recommend that all thoughts<br />

be centered upon living such a life and practicing such<br />

exercises as will develop the latent powers in each pupil<br />

so that he may see and know the invisible worlds whence<br />

come the causes we see manifested here. When this object<br />

is attained, and not till then, is he capable of investigating<br />

the unexplainel laws of nature. He is then also in a much<br />

better position than the scientists or anyone else to study<br />

comparative religion, for he sees the central source from<br />

whence all religions sprang, each being adapted to the people<br />

to whom given. He also sees how they fit into the<br />

grand scheme of evolution, and when he has become capable<br />

of reaching the consciousness of the inner worlds the unity<br />

of life is so apparent that he does not need to trouble him-<br />

self about the first object of the Theosophical Society, the<br />

universality of the One Life which makes brotherhood a<br />

fact in nature, beyond necessity of statement.<br />

To reach that last step, we must have the true view of<br />

the matter. We may preach to a stove that its duty is to<br />

heat and warm us, but unless we comply with the laws of<br />

its nature and put fuel into it, our preaching will be of<br />

no avail. On similar principle, unless we reach the step<br />

of exaltation where our hearts are filled with the divine<br />

love, we may preach and put forth teachings concerning<br />

Universal Brotherhood, but it will do no good. If we<br />

fill the stove with fuel, it will heat us, and if we fill our<br />

hearts with love they will radiate that quality without statement<br />

of objects such as the first one mentioned.<br />
