What is matter? Is it not unreal?<br />

Ansiver: There are various theories of matter. If we ask<br />

the materialist he, of course, maintains that matter is the<br />

one reality ; that all and everything is matter and that noth-<br />

ing can exist except<br />

that. The Christian Scientist is of the<br />

very opposite opinion. He holds that matter is nonexistent<br />

a delusion; that everything that is, is spirit, and so those<br />

two classes of people are the very antitheses of one another.<br />

But the truth is between.<br />

When God desires to manifest, He emanates within Him-<br />

self the thought forms of such a universe as He desires to<br />

create, and these archetypal ideas arc spirit when first ema-<br />

nated in that central source. But under the influence of<br />

time and space, they slowly crystallize and become that<br />

which we know as matter. This is a similar process to that<br />

which we may observe in the case of a snail. The juices
