Section of Prehistory
The basin of Terlago, as well as the
surrounding mountainous area, is a very
interesting area for the research on first
prehistoric human occupation of the alpine
environment during lateglacial and
Post-glacial. The areas closely adjacent
to the lakes of Terlago, santo and lamar
are characterized by undulating morphologies
and hills, bordered to the northwest
by Paganella-Monte Gazza and to
the south by Monte Bondone. Just the
south side of Paganella near the localities
of Prada-Prà Boral and Monte Terlago, seems
to offer the morphological situations
likely to provide guidance for understanding
the strategies and the prehistoric
settlements dynamics related to the basin
of Terlago, the high altitude mountainous
areas of Monte Gazza-Paganella, and the
late-Paleolithic sites of Andalo.
in this context at an altitude of about
900 m, over Prada plain and just north of
dos di camosciara, a rockshelter opens
in a pebbly limestone wall. The excavation
allowed to identify a stratigraphic
sequence of layers with distinct anthropic
occupation historical (late Antiquity) and
prehistorical (iron Age, Middle Bronze
Age-old neolithic, Mesolithic); in this shelter,
the archaeological evidence acquired,
indicate the presence of a multilayered
deposit characterized by a stratigraphical
sequence of undamaged levels variously
anthropized.
The set of evaluations based on scientific
results obtained, can promote the beginning
of a series of interventions through
an interdisciplinary research project with the

Monte Terlago rockshelter: stratigraphic section 1n-s
stratigraphic excavation under this shelter,
conducted by multidisciplinary criteria, may
provide an important contribution to the
knowledge of the smelting activities (archeometallurgy)
in the Bronze Age of centralwestern
Trentino, as well as increase the
information about the Mesolithic and neolithic
frequentations of the region.
