The staff of the scientific sections<br />
Born in Firenze in 1970, she is a zoologist and<br />
a public science writer. she got a degree in<br />
n<strong>at</strong>ural sciences in 1995 <strong>at</strong> the university of<br />
Florence and a Ph.d. with a research thesis<br />
on popul<strong>at</strong>ion dynamics and trophic ecology<br />
of desert rodents in 2003 <strong>at</strong> the university of<br />
sydney, Australia. since 2004 she has been<br />
working for <strong>di</strong>fferent publishing houses, writing<br />
books and articles of scientific populariz<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
since 2006 she worked as scientific<br />
consultant, environmental educ<strong>at</strong>or, tutor<br />
of form<strong>at</strong>ive courses and transl<strong>at</strong>or. From<br />
2008-2009 she collabor<strong>at</strong>ed with Trento Museum studying the new species<br />
of elephant-shrew. her research interests include popul<strong>at</strong>ion dynamics and<br />
trophic ecology of small mammals, habit<strong>at</strong> use and fauna surveys. since 2010,<br />
she has been also managing Associazione Mazingira, an organiz<strong>at</strong>ion established<br />
within the Trento Museum itself to conduct community-based projects<br />
in the area of the udzungwa Mountains in Tanzania.<br />
eMAnuel h. MARTin<br />
Research fellow<br />
Born in Rombo in 1977, he is a Tanzanian<br />
zoologist with a degree in wildlife management<br />
obtained <strong>at</strong> the sokoine university of<br />
Agriculture (suA), Tanzania (2002), and Master<br />
in Management of Protected Areas obtained<br />
<strong>at</strong> the university of Klagenfurt, Austria<br />
(2009). during 2003 - 2007, he worked<br />
as a conserv<strong>at</strong>ion officer <strong>at</strong> the Mokolo<strong>di</strong><br />
n<strong>at</strong>ure Reserve in Botswana, gaining wide<br />
experience in the field of bio<strong>di</strong>versity monitoring<br />
and protected area management. he<br />
was also extensively involved with training<br />
park personnel on monitoring capacity. in 2009 he was recruited as full-time<br />
research collabor<strong>at</strong>or by Trento Museum to cover the position of site Manager<br />
of the newly established TeAM project (Tropical ecology, Assessment and<br />
Monitoring), managed by conserv<strong>at</strong>ion intern<strong>at</strong>ional, funded by the Gordon<br />
and Betty Moore Found<strong>at</strong>ion, and coor<strong>di</strong>n<strong>at</strong>ed in the udzungwa Mountains<br />
by Trento Museum. since February 2012 he has enrolled into a Phd program<br />
with suA whereby his stu<strong>di</strong>es is focusing on the ecology of forest mammal<br />
community.<br />
