the epigravettian site of laget (val <strong>di</strong> non)<br />
Section of Prehistory<br />
The report of a new epigravettian site<br />
<strong>at</strong> an altitude of 1.430 m a.s.l. on Predaia<br />
Pl<strong>at</strong>eau, locality laget/ Bus del spin in<br />
non Valley (municipality of Tres, province<br />
of Trento), enriches the regional <strong>di</strong>scoveries<br />
of these ancient periods. The first<br />
archaeological intervention in 2011 led<br />
to confirm the importance of this site,<br />
in terms of degree of preserv<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />
ancient chronology. The archaeological<br />
d<strong>at</strong>a collected in 2011-2012 suggest the<br />
presence of a living floor well preserved,<br />
rich in lithic artifacts, areal extended and<br />
thick several centimeters. The sp<strong>at</strong>ial<br />
arrangement of lithic remains, where<br />
ploughing has not compromised the<br />
original str<strong>at</strong>igraphy of the deposit, are<br />
overall good. it’s important to note the<br />
presence of settlement structures preserved,<br />
like a well-circumscribed accumul<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
of flaking products with more<br />
than 1.000 fin<strong>di</strong>ngs and two hearths.<br />
These structural evidences confirm th<strong>at</strong><br />
this is a site of me<strong>di</strong>um-high altitude,<br />
articul<strong>at</strong>ed and <strong>di</strong>fferenti<strong>at</strong>ed in several<br />
specialized processing areas: from these<br />
preliminary d<strong>at</strong>a the site could be interpreted<br />
as a single episode of occup<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />
within a seasonal system of mobility.<br />
consequently, laget’s potential for<br />
research is not common in contemporary<br />
sites loc<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong> the same altitudes. The<br />
implement<strong>at</strong>ion of the project with fieldwork<br />
and labor<strong>at</strong>ory stu<strong>di</strong>es will provide<br />
new elements for reconstructing the modality<br />
of human occup<strong>at</strong>ion and exploi-<br />

t<strong>at</strong>ion of mid-mountain territories of central-eastern<br />
Trentino during l<strong>at</strong>eglacial<br />
and Postglacial period, with <strong>di</strong>rect palaeoenvironmental<br />
and palaeoeconomics<br />
implic<strong>at</strong>ions. Finally, laget site is of gre<strong>at</strong><br />
scientific relevance and is fully inserted in<br />
the new inter<strong>di</strong>sciplinary research projects<br />
of the section of Prehistory.<br />
