ODONTOGLOSSUM (Euodontoglossum) odoratum; pseudobulbis ovoideis compressa<br />

marginibus aeutis sulcatis, foliis anhuste ensiformibus pergamaceis, panícula<br />

amplissima multiflora. bracteis parvis, floribus l|-2 poli, expans, luteis rubro-<br />

fusco maculatis, sepalis petalisque consimilibus anguste lanceolatis longe<br />

acuminatis incurvis undulatis v. subcrispatis, labello bast ato lobis lateral i bua<br />

brevibus rotundatis intermedio elongato late subulato longe attenuato puberulo<br />

disco 4-dentato, columna supra medium anhuste alata alis dentatis apice cirrhia<br />

2 divaricatis incurvis margine interiore 1-dentatis aucta.<br />

A many-flowered sweet-scented species of Odontoglossum,<br />

discovered in the humid and gloomy forests of the Sierra<br />

Nevada of Merida, at an elevation of 7000 to 8000 _ feet,<br />

by linden. It belongs to the section with O. Hallii, Lindl. ;<br />

0. n•vium, Lindl. ; and others which constitute the genus<br />

Odontoglossum as first known and described. All have<br />

slender spreading ears at the top of the column, which<br />

sometimes end in bristle-like appendages. The specimen<br />

figured flowers in the Eoyal Gardens in March, and,<br />

though not previously figured, is well known in cultivation.<br />

DESCR. Pseudo-hnlbs two to three inches long, narrowly<br />

ovoid, compressed, two-edged, grooved. Leaves a foot<br />

long and under, by one inch broad, narrowly ensiform,<br />

acute, hardly coriaceous, rather the consistence of parch-<br />

ment, pale green. Panicle stalked, sometimes three feet<br />

long by one and a half broad, copiously branched, many-<br />

flowered ; bracts small, membranous. Flowers one and a<br />

half to two inches broad, dull golden-yellow, blotched with<br />

brownish-red. Sepals and petals similar, narrowly lanceo-<br />
