elongate linear- or oblong-lanceolate, obtuse or acute, one-<br />
sixth to nearly one inch in diameter, concave, very coriaceous,<br />
bright green, midrib thick with sometimes a lateral very<br />
obscure nerve on each side ; cauline leaves numerous, nar-<br />
rowly linear, one-half to two inches long. Flowering stems<br />
ascending from the crown below the leaves, sometimes pros-<br />
trate for half their length, four to eight inches long, stout<br />
or slender, one to four flowered. Flowers erect or inclined,<br />
pedicelled, one and a half inches long. Calyx-tube between<br />
funnel- and bell-shaped, about one-third the length of the<br />
corolla-tube ; lobes as long as the tube, narrow linear,<br />
remote at the base. Corolla-tube narrowly campanulate;<br />
limb one and a half inches in diameter ; lobes five, broadly<br />
ovate, acoite or acuminate, azure-blue, sprinkled towards the<br />
throat with white ; folds between the lobes very variable,<br />
membranous, quadrate and toothed or cut into subulate<br />
processes, or almost entire. Filaments stout ; anthers small.<br />
Ovary pedicelled, spindle-shaped, contracted into a short<br />
style with short oblong anally spreading stigmas. Ovules<br />
