390 Letter from George Spitty of Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex <strong>to</strong> 5th Feb. 1836<br />

E. Twopeny of Rochester, Esq., explaining that a rail road has<br />

been proposed, the route of which takes it across Old Garland's<br />

Farm and that the local farmers are opposed <strong>to</strong> it and will petition<br />

Parliament accordingly. Spitty asks for the Governors support<br />

and further states that as the River Thames is nearby, "there<br />

cannot be saved one farthing expense <strong>to</strong> the occupiers in<br />

conveying any produce the land may grow". Spitty also asks<br />

advice on rent.<br />
