Sale of portrait of Sir John Hawkins 1944-1945<br />

Incoming letters received by H. S. Whar<strong>to</strong>n Esq., M.A.,<br />

Dep. Governor, <strong>The</strong> Precinct, Rochester, from Spink & Son<br />

Limited, St James's, London, SW1 <strong>National</strong> Maritime Museum,<br />

Greenwich, Charity Commission, London SW1 and others<br />

successfully negotiating for the sale of the 1581 dated portrait by<br />

an unknown artist by Hawkins' Hospital <strong>to</strong> the <strong>National</strong> Maritime<br />

Museum for £300 plus copy in the original frame for rehanging<br />

in the almshouses.<br />

Inc letter from Capt Jack J.H. Spink M.C., of Spink and Son as<br />

above, raising the subject of the portraits future and referring <strong>to</strong><br />

earlier correspondence on the same matter in 1942.<br />
