9. Students present their self-created artwork and supporting paragraphs to the class. After each<br />
presentation, ask volunteers to answer three key questions: (1) What color(s) do you think is<br />
most important in this artwork? Why? (2) What do you think is the artist’s main idea in this<br />
work? (3) Do you see any similarities or differences between this artist’s work and the<br />
<strong>Haitian</strong> painting s/he chose to interpret?<br />
10. Be sure to have the slides of the <strong>Haitian</strong> painting students chose on display during<br />
presentations.<br />
11. As a class, reflect upon what students learned from the assignment. You might focus upon the<br />
use of color and how artists communicate their messages in paintings.<br />

• Rationale for favorite artwork displayed<br />
• Participation in class discussion<br />
• Artistic interpretation of chosen painting<br />
• Four-sentence paragraph on artistic interpretation of chosen painting<br />
