In his first major publication in 1892<br />

about his horizontal pendulum →<br />

measurements in 1889 he:<br />

• reiterates his interpretation of the<br />

earthquake in Japan on <strong>17</strong> April 1889;<br />

• relates two other synchronous records<br />

at POT and WHF definitely to major<br />

earthquakes which had occured in<br />

Central Asia on 11 July and in Greece<br />

on 25 August 1889, respectively;<br />

• states that the large amplitude motions<br />

propagate dominatingly not through the<br />

inner part of the Earth but rather close<br />

the surface;<br />

• reaons that those motions may come to<br />

us along pathes which supplement each<br />

other to a great circle → R1, R2, ...!!! →<br />
