2.2 Connecting the Scanner to Your Computer Using the RS-232C interface (1) Connect the RS-232C interface cable to your computer. Scanner AC adapter RS-232C interface cable (2) Plug the AC adapter into the DC power jack provided in the cable connector. (3) If the interface setting has been changed from the RS-232C interface (factory default) to the PS/2 keyboard interface, change it back to the RS-232C interface by scanning the following bar code: RS-232C interface Note: When disconnecting the interface cable or DC power jack, hold the connector housings not the cables. Pulling cables will result in breaks. Note: Avoid connecting and disconnecting of connectors all if possible. Doing so may result in weak contact. Note: Be sure to use the adapter exclusively designed for the scanner. 3
Using the PS/2 keyboard interface Note: Before proceeding to the connection procedure, be sure to switch off your computer. (1) The PS/2 keyboard interface cable is a Y-letter type having two connectors. Connect them to your computer and its keyboard as shown below. For a notebook or other computer with no external keyboard connected, simply plug the cable into the external keyboard connector. PS/2 keyboard interface cable Scanner Connector for computer (male) Connector for keyboard (female) (2) When you use the scanner first after delivery, change the interface setting to the PS/2 keyboard interface from the RS-232C interface (factory default) by scanning the following bar code: PS/2 keyboard interface (3) Select the keyboard connection type from "With external keyboard (default)," "Without external keyboard," and "With external numeric keypad" by using the bar-coded parameter menu in Chapter 12. (For details about the keyboard connection type, refer to page 56) (4) If you have modified the scanner settings in step (2) or (3) above, restart your computer. Note: Do not input data from the scanner and keyboard simultaneously. The scanner cannot accept such entry normally. 4
