Similarly, the pentaprism viewfinder’s image is refreshingly big and bright, making for easy composition and focus adjustments, while Active D-Lighting bringsout the best of even the trickiest lighting conditions, reining in highlights and boosting shadow detail to great effect. The D90 flatterslenseswith its autochromatic aberration correction facility – as fitted to more up-market cameras likethe D300s –which effectively rules out colour fringing. Other highlights include an excellent 11-point autofocus system with plenty of selectable options, including afancy3D-tracking AF mode that tracks erratically moving targets particularly well, and Nikon’s3D Colour Matrix II light metering system, which is amazingly accurate. Switching to video capture, the maximum HD movie resolution is only720p,which is no matchfor the Canon 550D, but quality is pretty good nonetheless.Video isn’tthe D90’sstrong suit but, for stills, it’s simply spectacular.
