Our Allies report new successes in the Carpathians against the<br />

Russians. The N a gy-Ag-Valley cleared of the enemy. At Bezerszallos<br />

and Bolowec the Russians lost 700 men and 5 machine guns.<br />

29ÎS January.<br />

The French fortress of Dunkirque bombarded by German aeroplanes,<br />

a generous portion of bombs distributed on the English bases<br />

erected there.<br />

To the South of the La Bassée Canal an English attempt to recapture<br />

positions we had taken from them, easily repulsed.<br />

Renewed Russian attacks fail at Gumbinnen, the enemy sustaining<br />

heavy casualties.<br />

North East of Bolimow the Germans drove the enemy from<br />

his advanced positions and penetrated into the Russian main position.<br />

It is reported on reliable authority that a Parseval airship,<br />

which started on 25!*? January on an expedition against the Russian<br />

fortified harbour Libau, has not returned, having probably been<br />

brought down by enemy guns and fallen into the sea.<br />

The Russians again defeated in the Carpathians to the West of<br />

the Uzsoker Pass. 400 prisoners taken.<br />

30t!i January.<br />

To the South of the La Bassée Canal our troops captured two<br />

more trenches. In the western part of the Argonne a German<br />

attack resulted in the gain of a considerable stretch of ground; 12<br />

officers and 731 men were taken prisoners, 12 machine guns and<br />

10 light guns captured. French night attacks to the South East of<br />

Verdun have been repulsed, the enemy suffering heavy losses. The<br />

enemy driven back from Angomont near Badonviller; Angomont<br />

has been occupied by the Germans.<br />

The Russians attempted several attacks to the East of Darkehmen<br />

and South East of Lake Lôwentin. Russian night attacks near Borzymow<br />

were repulsed with heavy losses for the enemy.<br />

3lsî January.<br />
