October 4.<br />

Forts Lierre, Waelhem, Kônigshookt and intervening redoubts<br />

fall at the siege of Antwerp. 30 guns captured at the redoubts.<br />

Three Siberian, and parts of the Russian 22 nd army Corps,<br />

advancing on the left wing over the Njemen, defeated after 2 days<br />

hard fighting in the East. Over 3,U00 unwounded prisoners, guns<br />

and machine guns captured.<br />

According to a French official report the German cruisers<br />

"Scharnhorst" and "Gneisenau" appeared off Papeete, Tahiti, and<br />

sank the French gunboat "Zélée."<br />

October 5.<br />

From Headquarters comes the report of the successful advance<br />

of our right wing in France on Sunday. The operations at Antwerp<br />

and in the East are progressing systematically and without<br />

fighting.<br />

October 6.<br />

Forts Kessel and Broechem at Antwerp are silenced. The city<br />

of Lierre and the railroad fortification on the Mechlin-Antwerp line<br />

taken.<br />

At the first assault on the infantry works at Tsingtau the Japanese<br />

and British were repulsed with a loss of 2,500 men.<br />

German and Austro-Hungarian forces fighting side by side drive<br />

back the Russians toward the Vistula at Opatow and Klimantovv.<br />

October 7.<br />

The line of battle in France has extended to the North of<br />

Arras and to the West of Lisle and Lens. No results as yet.<br />

An auxiliary army for Antwerp defeated between Linthe and<br />

Lierre.<br />

Report from Russian Poland that the Austrians have taken the<br />

fortification of Sandomir.<br />
