Drug <strong>use</strong> comparison with British Crime Survey f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

Patterns of <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> among participants <strong>in</strong> this study were compared with patterns of <strong>use</strong><br />

among participants <strong>in</strong> the BCS. The eligibility criteria for this study dictated that all<br />

p a rticipants had experience of us<strong>in</strong>g one or more <strong>drug</strong>s <strong>in</strong> their lifetime. There f o re, the<br />

sample was drawn from the population of sex workers with experience of <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong><br />

specifically <strong>and</strong> not from the wider population of sex workers. There f o re, the figure s<br />

reported <strong>in</strong> the BCS for each age group were adjusted such that patterns of <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> among<br />

this study’s participants were compared with those among the sub-sample of BCS<br />

participants who reported us<strong>in</strong>g at least one illicit <strong>drug</strong> <strong>in</strong> their lives.<br />

Tables 3.1 to 3.3 present percentages for <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> respondents <strong>in</strong> the current study, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

2000 BCS. Tables present figures for <strong>drug</strong> <strong>use</strong> <strong>in</strong> their lifetime, the last year <strong>and</strong> the last<br />

month by age group.<br />
