The leadership team conducts the Academically Intellectually Gifted Program review of the local Plan for Gifted Education and assesses the present program. The team assesses the representation of cultural and socio-economic groups in the program and makes recommendations to address inequities. Annual surveys, focus groups, interviews, and questionnaires may be included to reveal strengths and opportunities for growth of the existing program. Data from these sources provide valuable direction in setting goals, writing objectives, and making recommendations for the gifted program within the context of the total school program. The Gifted Leadership Team meets at least three times yearly to review goals, objectives, and initiatives and makes recommendations for review by the AIG Program. The Gifted Leadership Team Members include: • Director, AIG Program • Psychologist for the AIG Program, Wake County Schools • AIG Coordinating Teachers • Principals • Elementary and Middle School AIG Resource Teachers • Regular Education Teachers • Agency representatives from interested groups: Partners for the Advancement of Gifted Education (PAGE), Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children (CCCAAC) and others • Parent and Community Members (reflecting diversity of community) School Based Committee for Gifted Education(SBCGE) The SBCGE reviews nominations and referrals, makes identification recommendations, matches students' levels of service to student need, and coordinates the Annual Performance Review process. Parents may provide documentation to the SBCGE that demonstrates student academic strengths and request to meet with the SBCGE concerning the identification process. The SBCGE collaborates with the Student Support Team when students have other special needs. Likewise, the Student Support Team (SST) work with the SBCGE when evidence is suggests that gifted services may be needed. Additional Community Outreach efforts: North Carolina State University, Duke University, St. Augustine College, Shaw University and other area institutions of higher learning provide student and professional mentors and tutors for students in need of advanced instruction as appropriate and as schedules permit. The Director of the Academically Intellectually Gifted Program and members of the Gifted Education Leadership Team meet with community members for a variety of events and community meetings as appropriate.

Standard 5: Partnerships The LEA ensures on-going and meaningful participation of stakeholders in the planning and implementation of the local AIG program to develop strong partnerships. Practice B Shares with stakeholders, including all students' parents/families, information regarding the local AIG program, the local AIG plan, and other policies relating to gifted education. This practice is a Focused Practice for 2010-2013. Rationale: The AIG Program staff provides frequent, ongoing communication about Wake County's AIG Program to stakeholders. Opportunities to learn about the AIG Program are readily available at the school and district level. Goals: Update the WCPSS AIG website to reflect 2010-2013 AIG Plan. Share updated information with stakeholders through AIG Parent Guide and AIG Program Brochure. Update web-based technology to increase parent access to AIG information. Description: The AIG Program Plan is posted on the Wake County Public School System website along with links to the following documents and resources: • Early Entry to Kindergarten Procedures • Whole Grade Advancement Procedures • The NC Standard Course of Study • AIG Program Brochure • Eligibility for Service • Identification Procedures • Chain of Inquiry About Gifted Services • Information for Incoming Transfer Students • Parent/Staff Presentation PowerPoint • Model Overview PowerPoint • Third Grade Explorers PowerPoint • AIG Program Overview on Full Circle TV
