Detroit’s fir<strong>st</strong> regular <strong>season</strong> game,<br />

as well as its la<strong>st</strong>, at <strong>the</strong> Pontiac<br />

Silverdome was played again<strong>st</strong> Dallas.<br />

The Cowboys won <strong>the</strong> Monday Night<br />

conte<strong>st</strong> 36-10 October 6, 1975 during<br />

<strong>the</strong> Silverdome’s inaugural regular<br />

<strong>season</strong> game and <strong>the</strong> Lions won <strong>the</strong><br />

fi nale 15-10 on January 6, 2002.<br />

The Lions have won nine of <strong>the</strong> la<strong>st</strong> 15<br />

regular <strong>season</strong> meetings with Dallas,<br />

in addition to Detroit’s 38-6 win in <strong>the</strong><br />

1991 Divisional Playoff game.<br />

The Lions and Cowboys have squared<br />

off twice in po<strong>st</strong><strong>season</strong> play, with each<br />

team claiming victory on its own turf.<br />

The fi r<strong>st</strong> po<strong>st</strong><strong>season</strong> conte<strong>st</strong> occurred<br />

December 26, 1970 with Dallas po<strong>st</strong>ing<br />

a 5-0 shutout again<strong>st</strong> Detroit.<br />

The Lions captured <strong>the</strong> victory in <strong>the</strong><br />

second playoff conte<strong>st</strong> when <strong>the</strong>y<br />

defeated <strong>the</strong> Cowboys, 38-6, at <strong>the</strong><br />

Silverdome January 5, 1992.<br />

Lions RB Barry Sanders set a Lions’<br />

record for carries in a game (40) in<br />

a Monday Night conte<strong>st</strong> in Dallas<br />

September 19, 1994. The Lions won<br />

<strong>the</strong> game 20-17 in overtime.<br />

The Lions overcame a 24-point defi cit<br />

in <strong>the</strong> third quarter and beat <strong>the</strong><br />

Cowboys, 34-30, on October 2, 2011.<br />

The Lions returned two interceptions<br />

for touchdowns in <strong>the</strong> second half to<br />

spark <strong>the</strong> comeback.<br />

The Lions tied a NFL-record for a road<br />

team with a 24-point comeback win at<br />

Dallas October 2, 2011. With 20+-point<br />

comebacks in consecutive weeks,<br />

Detroit became <strong>the</strong> fi r<strong>st</strong> team in NFL<br />

hi<strong>st</strong>ory to accomplish that feat.<br />

SERIES NOTES<br />

The Lions-Giants series is one of four<br />

series (Arz, Chi and GB) in franchise<br />

hi<strong>st</strong>ory dating back to 1930. The Lions<br />

hold a 20-19-1 lead in <strong>the</strong> series<br />

<strong>st</strong>arting with a 19-6 New York victory<br />

at Detroit November 5, 1930, when <strong>the</strong><br />

team was located in Portsmouth.<br />

Detroit dominated <strong>the</strong> series initially,<br />

claiming eight of <strong>the</strong> fi r<strong>st</strong> 12 conte<strong>st</strong>s.<br />

The Giants were <strong>the</strong> opposition in <strong>the</strong><br />

Lions’ fi r<strong>st</strong>-ever game in Detroit. The<br />

Lions won <strong>the</strong> game 9-0 September 23,<br />

1934 at University of Detroit Stadium.<br />

The Lions and <strong>the</strong> Giants played <strong>the</strong><br />

NFL’s la<strong>st</strong> scoreless 0-0 tie November<br />

7, 1943 at New York.<br />

Detroit claimed its fir<strong>st</strong> NFL<br />

championship with a 26-7 win over <strong>the</strong><br />

defending champion Giants December<br />

15, 1935. It was <strong>the</strong> only po<strong>st</strong><strong>season</strong><br />

meeting between <strong>the</strong> franchises.<br />

In 2000, <strong>the</strong> Lions jumped out to a<br />

21-0 hal ime lead en route to a 31-21<br />

win at Giants Stadium November 19.<br />

The fi r<strong>st</strong> half was highlighted by two<br />

Charlie Batch touchdown passes and a<br />

blocked punt by WR Larry Fo<strong>st</strong>er, which<br />

was <strong>the</strong> fi r<strong>st</strong> by <strong>the</strong> Lions since Bennie<br />

Blades blocked a punt December 13,<br />
