Jeremiah Washburn joined <strong>the</strong> Lions coaching <strong>st</strong>aff as <strong>the</strong><br />

assi<strong>st</strong>ant off ensive line coach in 2009. Before coming to Detroit, he had<br />

spent six <strong>season</strong>s working in <strong>the</strong> Baltimore Ravens player personnel<br />

department. Washburn was <strong>the</strong> Ravens’ area scout for <strong>the</strong> Southwe<strong>st</strong><br />

from 2005-08 and covered schools from <strong>the</strong> Big 12, SEC, WAC and<br />

Conference USA. He also assi<strong>st</strong>ed with <strong>the</strong> acquisition of rookie free<br />

agents following <strong>the</strong> dra .<br />

LIONS COACHING HIGHLIGHTS<br />

Detroit’s off ensive line continues to be one of <strong>the</strong> top pass protecting<br />

lines in <strong>the</strong> NFL for an off ense that has passed more than any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

team <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>st</strong> three <strong>season</strong>s (1,884 pass attempts).<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>st</strong> two <strong>season</strong>s, Detroit has allowed 63 sacks (10th<br />

be<strong>st</strong> in <strong>the</strong> NFL) while having <strong>the</strong> second mo<strong>st</strong> pass attempts<br />

(1,299) in <strong>the</strong> NFL. Their sacks-per-pass-play percentage during<br />

that span is 4.6 pct (7th be<strong>st</strong> in <strong>the</strong> NFL).<br />

During his fi r<strong>st</strong> two years in Baltimore (2003-04), Washburn was<br />

a player personnel assi<strong>st</strong>ant. He assi<strong>st</strong>ed in pro scouting, including<br />

some advance scouting of opponents, unre<strong>st</strong>ricted free agents,<br />

NFL Europe and o<strong>the</strong>r free agents, and he also assi<strong>st</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> college<br />

scouting director in preparation for <strong>the</strong> NFL Dra .<br />

In 2002, Washburn entered <strong>the</strong> NFL as a football operations<br />

assi<strong>st</strong>ant with <strong>the</strong> Carolina Pan<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Washburn was a three-year guard at <strong>the</strong> University of Arkansas.<br />

He was an international economics major and was a graduate<br />

assi<strong>st</strong>ant for <strong>the</strong> Razorbacks’ athletic department while he earned<br />

his MBA.<br />

Washburn and his wife, Susan, have two daughters, Ally and<br />

Megan, and a son, Drew.<br />

George Yarno enters his fourth <strong>season</strong> as Detroit’s off ensive line<br />

coach. Prior to joining <strong>the</strong> Lions’ coaching <strong>st</strong>aff , Yarno spent <strong>the</strong> 2008<br />

<strong>season</strong> as <strong>the</strong> assi<strong>st</strong>ant off ensive line coach with Tampa Bay a er<br />

spending 17 years at <strong>the</strong> college level working with <strong>the</strong> off ensive line.<br />

Detroit’s off ensive line continues to be one of <strong>the</strong> top pass protecting<br />

lines in <strong>the</strong> NFL for an off ense that has passed more than any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

team <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>st</strong> three <strong>season</strong>s (1,884 pass attempts).<br />

On 702 pass plays in 2011 (mo<strong>st</strong> in <strong>the</strong> NFL), Detroit allowed<br />

36 sacks for a sacks-per-pass-play percentage of 5.1 (10th be<strong>st</strong><br />

in <strong>the</strong> NFL).<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> pa<strong>st</strong> two <strong>season</strong>s, Detroit has allowed 63 sacks (10th<br />

be<strong>st</strong> in <strong>the</strong> NFL) while having <strong>the</strong> second mo<strong>st</strong> pass attempts<br />

(1,299) in <strong>the</strong> NFL. Their sacks-per-pass-play percentage during<br />

that span is 4.6 (7th be<strong>st</strong> in <strong>the</strong> NFL).<br />

In 2010, Detroit fi nished with a sacks-per-pass play percentage of<br />

4.09, which was <strong>the</strong> third-lowe<strong>st</strong> sacks per pass play percentage<br />

allowed by <strong>the</strong> Lions since 1960.<br />

From 2003-07, Yarno worked at his alma mater, Washington<br />

State, in his second <strong>st</strong>int as <strong>the</strong> school’s off ensive line coach. During<br />

<strong>the</strong> 2003 <strong>season</strong>, he guided All-Pac-10 selections Josh Parrish (fi r<strong>st</strong><br />

team) and Calvin Arm<strong>st</strong>rong (honorable mention) to become 2003<br />

Holiday Bowl champions. Yarno began his coaching career with <strong>the</strong><br />

Cougars from 1991-94.<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> course of his 17-year college coaching career, Yarno<br />

served as an off ensive line coach at both LSU (2001-02), helping <strong>the</strong><br />

team win an SEC title (2001) and at Arizona State (2000). Yarno also<br />

served as an assi<strong>st</strong>ant head coach/off ensive line coach at Hou<strong>st</strong>on<br />

(1998-99) and as an off ensive coordinator/off ensive line coach at<br />

Idaho (1995-97).<br />

Prior to coaching, Yarno was a two-time Pac-10 conference<br />

honoree as a defensive lineman at Washington State (1975-79). In1979<br />

he signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay where he played for fi ve<br />

years (1979-1983). Yarno later joined <strong>the</strong> Denver Gold of <strong>the</strong> <strong>up</strong><strong>st</strong>art<br />

USFL (1984-85) before returning to <strong>the</strong> Buccaneers (1985-87). Yarno<br />

fi nished out his NFL playing career with Atlanta (1988), Hou<strong>st</strong>on<br />

(1989) and Green Bay (1990).<br />

Born Augu<strong>st</strong> 12, 1957, Yarno and his wife, Cindy, have three<br />

children, Josh, Adrianne and George.<br />
