In the teams’ only matchup at Ford
Field, September 19, 2004, Detroit
topped the Texans 28-16.
In that series opener, WR Eddie
Drummond returned a kickoff 99 yards
for a touchdown, his longest career
return and his fi rst career kickoff return
touchdown.
Drummond’s kickoff return was the
eighth longest in team history and
the longest since Terry Fair returned

In the Lions fi rst trip to Houton’s Reliant
Stadium on November 19, 2008, WR
Calvin Johnson caught two passes for
154 yards, including a career long of 96
yards. With 154 yards on two receptions
against the Texans, Johnson’s receiving
yards were the third-most for a player
with 2-or-fewer receptions in a single
game in NFL history.
In that same game, K Jason Hanson hit
two fi eld goals of 54-yards at Houston
which were his 36th and 37th career
fi eld goals of 50+-yards. It was the third
time in Hanson’s career he hit two-ormore
fi eld goals of 50+-yards in a game.

The clubs have met just six times since
the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984.
On October 20, 1957, Bobby Layne
threw a 29-yard TD pass to Howard
“Hopalong” Cassady with 46 seconds
remaining in the game as Detroit
overcame a 27-10 fourth quarter defi cit
to defeat the Colts 31-27 in one of the
greatest comebacks in team history.
In the 1997 meeting, a 32-10 Lions
win at the Silverdome, Jason Hanson
became the franchise’s fi rst kicker to
convert two 50-yard fi eld goals (52,
55) in a game. Barry Sanders rushed
for 216 yards, including an 80-yarder
for a touchdown. It was Sanders’ fourth
200-yard outing of his career.
In Detroit’s fi rst visit to Indianapolis’
Lucal Oil Stadium, December 14, 2008,
K Jason Hanson connected on a 51-yard
fi eld goal. his 51-yarder set a new NFL
record for 50-yard fi eld goals in a career
(41) and it tied Morten Andersen’s
NFL record for 50-yard fi eld goals in
a season (8). Hanson is the fi rst player
in NFL history to go 8-for-8 on 50-yard
fi eld goals in a single season.
