• Exclusive breast-feeding <strong>of</strong> children (age 6.35 months) is 62.4% (DLHS-3) as against National average <strong>of</strong> 24.9%<br />

• The percentage <strong>of</strong> children with diarrhea who receive ORS is 53.1% in the State as compared to the National Average <strong>of</strong> 33.7% (DLHS-3).<br />

• 8. The State has not had any case <strong>of</strong> Wild Polio Virus since November 2006.<br />

Areas for further Improvement:<br />

• The institutional framework <strong>of</strong> NRHM needs to be strengthened.<br />

o The SHM needs to meet more regularly and RKSs need to be empowered to utilize the local funds<br />

• Quality <strong>of</strong> services need to be enhanced.<br />

o At many places, inspite <strong>of</strong> availability <strong>of</strong> necessary infrastructure, equipments and HR, commensurate services are not available. This can be<br />

rapidly remedied with better supervision.<br />

o Technical supervision by supervising cadres needs to be improved and standard operating procedures strengthened<br />

o Systems for facility level monitoring and supervision needed.<br />

o Family <strong>Plan</strong>ning Services (especially NSV) need improvements.<br />

• Utilization <strong>of</strong> available manpower need to be improved.<br />

o Optimal positioning, ensuring strict supervision and logical mixing <strong>of</strong> available skills is needed in the state<br />

Special action is required in remote areas.<br />

o Being a hill state there are several un served, remote areas which need special planning and supervision.<br />

Systematic plan for upgradation <strong>of</strong> Health Infrastructure<br />

o As hoc upgradation <strong>of</strong> infrastructure should be avoided and parallel processing for equipments and HR may be undertaken. Synergy may be<br />

ensured with the plans under PMSSY and other proposals for upgradation <strong>of</strong> Infrastructure. All agencies associated with this work need to be<br />

aligned together.<br />

o Residential accommodation needs to be improved and service providers located at the respective facility<br />

Others issues<br />

o There are many remote inaccessible areas which needs focused attention to provide health care to the people residing in such areas. The State<br />

Government has been requested to identify difficult, most difficult, and inaccessible areas and shortage <strong>of</strong> medical <strong>of</strong>ficers, specialists and<br />

para-medical staff in difficult and inaccessible areas. Special incentives are contemplated to encourage health personnel to work in these<br />

areas. Upgradation <strong>of</strong> infrastructure and provision <strong>of</strong> accommodation facilities are also necessary in these localities.<br />
