Replacing User-serviceable Parts Section 12-2
580
6. Remove the old battery’s connector.
Old battery
7. Push the new battery’s wire into the battery compartment and close the
cover.
8. Connect a Programming Device and verify that the Battery Error has been
cleared.
Note 1. With the CS1 and CS1-V1 CPU Units, even if this procedure is not used
and the old battery is disconnected with the power OFF (power OFF and
no battery connected), memory will be backed up for a short time by an internal
capacitor. In this case, the internal capacitor will discharge within approximately
30 s after the power is turned OFF, so be sure to connect the
new battery immediately. (For CS1-H Ver. 3.0 CPU Units, the capacitor’s
backup time is 3 min.)
2. If the above procedure is not used and the old battery is disconnected with
the power ON (power ON and no battery connected), memory will still be
backed up. However, be sure to touch a grounded metal object to discharge
any static electricity before replacing the battery.
3. With CPU Units that have two battery connectors, leave the old battery attached
while connecting the new battery. This prevents a battery error occurring
during battery replacement. Remove the old battery after the new
battery is connected.
!Caution With either a CS1, CS1-V, or CS1-H CPU Unit, do not short the battery terminals
or charge, disassemble, heat, or incinerate the battery. Do not subject the
battery to strong shocks. Doing any of these may result in leakage, rupture,
heat generation, or ignition of the battery.
!Caution Dispose of any battery that has been dropped on the floor or otherwise subjected
to excessive shock. Batteries that have been subjected to shock may
leak if they are used.
!Caution Do not allow unqualified persons to replace batteries. UL standards required
that batteries be replaced only by experienced technicians.
