1900s to describe the 1 percent chance flood.<br />

1 percent chance flood A flood that has a 1 percent chance of being equaled or<br />

exceeded in any given year. Referred to as 100-year<br />

flood throughout this document because the 100-year<br />

flood is the common, although inaccurate, term used<br />

historically to describe this type of flood event.
