to reduce the systemic noise to a m<strong>in</strong>imum. For example,<br />
the angle between the w<strong>in</strong>g and the EM coil<br />
holder (see Fig. 6a) is very important, as well as the<br />
type of the rigid <strong>fi</strong>x<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
A similar dual frequency EM system <strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong><br />
the Tw<strong>in</strong> Otter has been designed for the Cessna Caravan.<br />
The system <strong>in</strong> the Cessna Caravan was <strong>fi</strong>rst<br />
test flown <strong>in</strong> April 1999 and made ready for production<br />
surveys <strong>in</strong> June of the same year. The coil con-<br />

The “Three-<strong>in</strong>-One” aerogeophysical concept of GTK <strong>in</strong> <strong>2004</strong><br />
<strong>fi</strong>guration of the EM system is the same <strong>in</strong> both aircraft,<br />
but due to shorter w<strong>in</strong>gspan the distance between<br />
the transmitter and receiver coils <strong>in</strong> the Cessna<br />
Caravan is only 16.96 m. The coil dimensions and<br />
weight of the w<strong>in</strong>gtip <strong>in</strong>stallations were also modi<strong>fi</strong>ed<br />
for the Cessna. Figure 7 shows the new technique<br />
for <strong>fi</strong>tt<strong>in</strong>g the EM pod to the w<strong>in</strong>gtip. Instead<br />
of mount<strong>in</strong>g the w<strong>in</strong>gtip system to the support<strong>in</strong>g<br />
structure <strong>in</strong>side the w<strong>in</strong>g, as <strong>in</strong> the case of Tw<strong>in</strong> Otter,<br />
the EM pod was af<strong>fi</strong>xed to the alum<strong>in</strong>ium plate<br />
