IV. Lydia <strong>Hyde</strong> (30), b<strong>or</strong>ii at Lebanon, Conn., abont<br />

1710, <strong>the</strong> third daughter of Samuel <strong>Hyde</strong> (4) and Elizabeth<br />

Calk<strong>in</strong>s, w<strong>as</strong> a granddaughter of Samuel H^^de (2) <strong>the</strong><br />

iirst, and Jane Lee, of N<strong>or</strong>wich. She m. 2 ITov., 1727,<br />

Jonathan Metcalf, b. 17 Jan., 1702, at Lebanon, <strong>the</strong> eldest<br />

son of Jonathan Metcalf and Hannah Avery of Lebanon.<br />

[This Jonathan Metcalf <strong>the</strong> Iirst of Lebanon, b. 16<br />

March, 1675, who married Hannah Avery <strong>in</strong> Jan., 1703,<br />

w<strong>as</strong> <strong>the</strong> eldest son of Jonathan Metcalf <strong>the</strong> first of Dedham,<br />

M<strong>as</strong>s., and his wife, Hannah Keurick. That Jonathan<br />

Metcalf, <strong>the</strong> first of Dedham, w<strong>as</strong> <strong>the</strong> second son of<br />

Michael Metcalf 2d, of Dedham, and Mary Fairbanks,<br />

second son of Michael Metcalf of K<strong>or</strong>wich <strong>in</strong> England.<br />

That Michael Metcalf w<strong>as</strong> b<strong>or</strong>n at Tatterf<strong>or</strong>d, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> county<br />

of I^<strong>or</strong>folk, England, <strong>in</strong> 1586 ; and his first wife, Sarah,<br />

w<strong>as</strong> b. 17 June, 1593, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> adjo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g parish of llT<strong>or</strong>th<br />

Ea<strong>in</strong>ham. <strong>The</strong>y were m. 13 Oct., 1616, and settled <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

city of N<strong>or</strong>wich, and had eleven children, two of whom<br />

died <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>fancy <strong>in</strong> England. Be<strong>in</strong>g persecuted by<br />

Bishop Wren on account of his religion, he emigrated<br />

with his wife and n<strong>in</strong>e children to this country <strong>in</strong> April,<br />

1637, and settled at Dedham <strong>in</strong> July of <strong>the</strong> same year.<br />

His wife d. 30 Nov., 1644, at Dedham. His children by<br />

her, who came to this country, were : 1. Mary, who m.<br />

Henry Wilson. 2. Michael, who m. Mary Fairbanks. 3.<br />

John, who m. Mary Chicker<strong>in</strong>g. 4. Sarah, who m. Eobert<br />

Onion. 5. Elizabeth, who m. Thom<strong>as</strong> Bancroft of Read<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

6. Martha, who m. three times. 7. Thom<strong>as</strong>, who m.<br />

l,"Sarah Paige; and 2, Anne Pa<strong>in</strong>e. 8. Jane, who m.<br />

Thom<strong>as</strong> Walker of Rchoboth. And 9. Rebecca, who m.<br />

John Mc<strong>in</strong>tosh of Dedham. Michael Metcalf, f<strong>or</strong> his<br />

second wife, m. 13 Aug., 1645, <strong>the</strong> widow Mary Pidge of<br />

Roxbury, and had by her no issue. His son Michael Metcalf<br />

and Mary Fairbanks had five children : 1. Michael,<br />

who m. Elizabeth K<strong>in</strong>gsbury. 2. Mary, who m. John<br />

"Ware. 3. Sarah, who m. Robert Ware of Wrentham.<br />

4. Jonathan, b. 21 Sept., 1650, who m. 10 April, 1674,<br />

Hannah Kenrick, and d. 27 May, 1727. And 5. Eleazcr,<br />

who m. and settled at Wrentham. Most of <strong>the</strong> Metcalfs<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> n<strong>or</strong><strong>the</strong>rn part of United States are <strong>the</strong> <strong>descendants</strong><br />

of this Michael Metcalf, who. came from N<strong>or</strong>wich <strong>in</strong> Eno;-
