was ordained over <strong>the</strong> 1st Church in Dedham,<br />

5 Feb. 1756. He<br />

married CATHARINE DEXTER, eldest daughter <strong>of</strong> his predecessor,<br />

12 Oct. 1756. <strong>The</strong>y had WILLIAM, 23 Nov. 1759, who<br />

died young ; JASON, 29 Jan. 1763, who also died young ; CATHA-<br />

RINE, 8 Oct. 1769, who died an infant ; SAMUEL, 5 April, 1771 \<br />

CATHARINE, 28 Aug. 1774. (See p. 46.) HE died 17 May, 1803,<br />

about two months after <strong>the</strong> Rev. Joshua Bates, D. D. (Har. Univ,<br />

1800,) became his Colleague. His widow died 30 Aug. 1814.<br />

He preached <strong>the</strong> Art. Elec. Sermon in 1761 ; <strong>the</strong> Gen. Elec.<br />

Sermon in 1769, and many o<strong>the</strong>r sermons, on particular occasions,<br />

which were printed.<br />

April, 1769; BENJAMIN STONE, 14 Dec. 1772; PATTY, 20 June,<br />

1777. (See p. 46.) LUCY married GIDEON RICHARDSON <strong>of</strong> Sudbury.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y had Ruel, Josiah, Benjamin, Polly, William, Per-<br />

sis, Lucy, Abel, Betsy, Dexter, Martha, Joseph and Henry.<br />

PERSIS married LUTHER RICHARDSON, (bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Gideon,) and<br />

had Charles, who married and had children ; Lucy, who married<br />

Gardner Hunt <strong>of</strong> Sudbury, and has a family ; Lu<strong>the</strong>r, who<br />

married Mary Studson <strong>of</strong> Waltham, and has a family ; and<br />

Prentiss, who married Harriet Nichols <strong>of</strong> South boro', and has<br />

one child. BENJAMIN STONE married PATIENCE HUNT <strong>of</strong> Sud-<br />

bury, and had William, who married Allyine f1 . Trowbridge <strong>of</strong><br />

Fram., and has Alma F., Henry W., Benjamin S., John T., Marietta,<br />

Charles, Edgar, and Adoniram J. ; Curtis, who married<br />

Susan Smith <strong>of</strong> Sudbury, and has two children ; George, who<br />

married Eliza Owen <strong>of</strong> Fram., and has a family. PATTY, married<br />

FRANCIS BOGLE <strong>of</strong> Sudbury, and had Miranda, who married<br />

Azariah Walker <strong>of</strong> Fram. and had a family Sarah ; <strong>Haven</strong>,<br />

who married William Jones <strong>of</strong> Sudbury, and has a family ; Lucy,<br />

and Nancy, who are both unmarried.<br />

MOSES HEMENWAY 3<br />

, bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> above, graduated at<br />

Cambridge in 1755 ; received <strong>the</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> D. D. <strong>the</strong>re, in 1784,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> same, at Dart., in 1792. He was ordained at Wells, Me.<br />

in 1759, and died <strong>the</strong>re in April, 1811. He was a <strong>The</strong>ologian<br />

<strong>of</strong> considerable eminence, and published several able productions<br />

relating to <strong>the</strong> <strong>The</strong>ological controversies <strong>of</strong> his time most <strong>of</strong><br />

;<br />

which, if not all, may be seen in <strong>the</strong> Archives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hist. Society<br />

at Boston. According to Farmer, he descended from Ralph<br />

Hemenway, who was <strong>of</strong> Roxbury in 1634. He had a large fam-<br />

ily, but I have not been able, with much inquiry, to learn any-<br />
