AUDREY BEA CARR LAWRENCE<br />

CHECK-Audrey Bea Carr Lawrence, 96, died Saturday, December 11, <strong>1999</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

Skyl<strong>in</strong>e Manor Nurs<strong>in</strong>g Home <strong>in</strong> Floyd. She was a member of Havens Chapel<br />

United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School and was a<br />

member of <strong>the</strong> UMW. She was an accomplished poet and had won several<br />

awards for her writ<strong>in</strong>gs. In 1983 she was named Mo<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> Year for Family Life<br />

<strong>in</strong> Floyd County. She was a lov<strong>in</strong>g mo<strong>the</strong>r and grandmo<strong>the</strong>r and was known by all<br />

as “Granny.” She was born to Carey O. and Rej<strong>in</strong>a Carr on March 9, 1903. She<br />

and her husband, Stanley E. Lawrence had celebrated <strong>the</strong>ir sixty-n<strong>in</strong>th wedd<strong>in</strong>g<br />

anniversary before his death <strong>in</strong> 1991. She was also preceded <strong>in</strong> death by a son,<br />

Clay Earl Lawrence; daughter, June James; an <strong>in</strong>fant son; bro<strong>the</strong>r R.M. Carr;<br />

sister Ortha C. Nolley; granddaughter, Fredrica Harmon Roberts; son-<strong>in</strong>-law,<br />

Wesley Wimmer. Survived by: daughters and sons-<strong>in</strong>-law, Stanley Bea and<br />

Frederick M. Harmon, Roanoke, Jarrette “P<strong>in</strong>ky” and John J<strong>in</strong>nett, Knoxville, TN,<br />

Diana L. Wimmer, Check; sister, Etta Mae Carr, Roanoke; son-<strong>in</strong>-law, Russell<br />

James, Roanoke; grandchildren, Stephana “Stacey” and Hubert Barton, Radford,<br />

Lyle and Jean Wimmer, Charlotte, NC, Kerry Clay Lawrence, Roanoke, Rene and<br />

Susan Wimmer, Salem, Chetley Harmon, Roanoke; step-grandchildren, Jackie<br />

and Rev. Bruce Day, Rome, GA, Jeffery J<strong>in</strong>nell, Knoxville, TN, Rob<strong>in</strong> and CMDR.<br />

Clyde Porter, Seattle, WA, Jill and Steve Daniel, Reidsville, NC;<br />

great-grandchildren, Dr. Carol Roberts, Dr. Will Carvajal, both of Richmond, Emily<br />

and Lt. Keith Pyle, Yukosuka, Japan; Adam Wimmer, Katie Wimmer, both of<br />

Charlotte, NC, Travis Barton, Roanoke, Mat<strong>the</strong>w Barton, Concord, NC, Katie<br />

Griggs, Roanoke, Kayla Wimmer, Dylan Wimmer, both of Salem; eight step-great<br />

grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Havens Chapel United<br />

Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 14, <strong>1999</strong> at 2 p.m. by Dr. Fred Aust<strong>in</strong>,<br />

Reverend Layne Board and Reverend Lane Spigener. Interment at Wilson<br />

Cemetery. Donations may be made to <strong>the</strong> Floyd Parish Parsonage Fund, C/O<br />

Judy Wimmer, 915 Cambria St. NW, Christiansburg, VA 24073. Arrangements by<br />

Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.<br />

DAWSON HALL SHELOR<br />

TAMPA, FL-Dawson Hall Shelor, age 79, passed away Thursday, December 9,<br />

<strong>1999</strong> at Vencor Hospital Central, Tampa. He was owner of an electrical company.<br />

He was a member of <strong>the</strong> Presbyterian faith. He was born <strong>in</strong> Floyd County and had<br />

lived <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tampa area s<strong>in</strong>ce 1952. Survivors are: his wife, Margie P. Shelor,<br />

Tampa; son, Dawson H. “Scoot” Shelor, Tampa; daughter, Elizabeth “Suzie”<br />

Susan Boone, Wiley, TX; bro<strong>the</strong>r, Robert “Bob” Shelor, Floyd; sister, Betty<br />

Shelor, Lynchburg. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at <strong>the</strong> Maberry<br />

Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Reverend Michael Nelms officiat<strong>in</strong>g. Burial<br />

followed <strong>in</strong> Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd.<br />

RICHARD ALVIN WIKLE<br />

WILLIS-Richard Alv<strong>in</strong> Wikle, 77, jo<strong>in</strong>ed his beloved wife, Mary, <strong>in</strong> heaven on<br />

Saturday, December 11, <strong>1999</strong>. He was born May 21, 1922 <strong>in</strong> Swa<strong>in</strong> Co. NC to <strong>the</strong><br />

late Jacob Richard Wikle and Della Slagle Wikle. He retired from Dillard Paper<br />

Co. with 34 years of service. Alv<strong>in</strong> was a member of Calvary Bible Church of<br />

Dugspur and prior member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Kernersville, NC.<br />
