Christiansburg. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant<br />

Valley Church with Reverend Roy Turp<strong>in</strong> officiat<strong>in</strong>g. Interment <strong>in</strong> Pleasant Valley<br />

Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to <strong>the</strong> Pleasant Valley Church<br />

Build<strong>in</strong>g Fund, Floyd, VA 24091. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, handled<br />

arrangements.<br />

GEORGE E. PRATT, JR.<br />

FLOYD-George E. Pratt, Jr., 72, passed away at his home on January 19, 2000.<br />

Mr. Pratt was a lifelong resident of Floyd County. He was an avid farmer, a veteran<br />

of World War II, and a former member of <strong>the</strong> Floyd County Board of Supervisors.<br />

Mr. Pratt was preceded <strong>in</strong> death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Pratt,<br />

Sr., and one sister, Faye P. Belcher. He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Mrs.<br />

Ardena, W. Pratt; his oldest daughter and spouse, Joan and Wes Starkey of<br />

Floyd; his tw<strong>in</strong> daughter and son and <strong>the</strong>ir spouses, Jewel and Doug Phillips and<br />

Joel and Saundra Pratt, all of Floyd; five granddaughters, Laura and Heidi Pratt,<br />

Mary Beth Starkey, and Brittany and Brandy Phillips, all of Floyd. Survivors also<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude one bro<strong>the</strong>r, Shirley A. Pratt of Floyd, one sister, Blanche P. Wood of<br />

Meadows of Dan, and his mo<strong>the</strong>r-<strong>in</strong>-law, Mrs. Arthur Wood of Floyd. Funeral<br />

services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000 at <strong>the</strong> Maberry<br />

Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bryan Childress, Elder Joe McGrady, Elder<br />

Edward Bowman and Dr. Alton Griff<strong>in</strong> officiat<strong>in</strong>g. Burial <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pratt Cemetery.<br />

Children’s children are <strong>the</strong> crown of old men and <strong>the</strong> glory of children is <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r. Proverbs 17:6.<br />

IDA DICKERSON VAUGHN<br />

GALAX-Ida Dickerson Vaughn, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2000 <strong>in</strong><br />

a Galax nurs<strong>in</strong>g home. Survivors <strong>in</strong>clude: son and daughter-<strong>in</strong>-law, Rodney and<br />

Ann Vaughn, Salma, NC; sister, Alice Quesenberry, Dugspur; bro<strong>the</strong>r, Elmo<br />

Dickerson, La Plata, MD; grandson and wife, Robert and Cynthia Vaughn, Galax;<br />

three step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services were<br />

held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000 at <strong>the</strong> Maberry Funeral Home<br />

Chapel, Floyd. Burial followed <strong>in</strong> Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Willis.<br />

HAZEL WHITENACK AUSTIN<br />

CHRISTIANSBURG-Hazel Whitenack Aust<strong>in</strong>, 80, went to be with <strong>the</strong> Lord<br />

Wednesday, January 26, 2000. She was <strong>the</strong> beloved wife of Cecil for 64 years,<br />

and a dedicated homemaker. She was a lov<strong>in</strong>g wife, mo<strong>the</strong>r, grandmo<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

great-grandmo<strong>the</strong>r and a special friend to all. She will be sadly missed. She was<br />

<strong>the</strong> daughter of <strong>the</strong> late Chester and Gracie Vest Whitenack. Mrs. Aust<strong>in</strong> is<br />

survived by: her husband, Cecil R. (Bill) Aust<strong>in</strong> of Christiansburg; son and<br />

daughter-<strong>in</strong>-law, L<strong>in</strong>dsey R. and Barbara Aust<strong>in</strong>, Salem; daughter and son-<strong>in</strong>-law,<br />

Judy A. and Larry Atk<strong>in</strong>son, Elliston; grandchildren, Ronnie Aust<strong>in</strong>, Aust<strong>in</strong>,<br />
