Poff, both of Christiansburg; two sisters, Letha Duncan, Dorothy Akers, both of
Christiansburg. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant
Valley Church with Reverend Roy Turpin officiating. Interment in Pleasant Valley
Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Church
Building Fund, Floyd, VA 24091. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, handled
arrangements.
GEORGE E. PRATT, JR.
FLOYD-George E. Pratt, Jr., 72, passed away at his home on January 19, 2000.
Mr. Pratt was a lifelong resident of Floyd County. He was an avid farmer, a veteran
of World War II, and a former member of the Floyd County Board of Supervisors.
Mr. Pratt was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Pratt,
Sr., and one sister, Faye P. Belcher. He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Mrs.
Ardena, W. Pratt; his oldest daughter and spouse, Joan and Wes Starkey of
Floyd; his twin daughter and son and their spouses, Jewel and Doug Phillips and
Joel and Saundra Pratt, all of Floyd; five granddaughters, Laura and Heidi Pratt,
Mary Beth Starkey, and Brittany and Brandy Phillips, all of Floyd. Survivors also
include one brother, Shirley A. Pratt of Floyd, one sister, Blanche P. Wood of
Meadows of Dan, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Wood of Floyd. Funeral
services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000 at the Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bryan Childress, Elder Joe McGrady, Elder
Edward Bowman and Dr. Alton Griffin officiating. Burial in the Pratt Cemetery.
Children’s children are the crown of old men and the glory of children is their

IDA DICKERSON VAUGHN
GALAX-Ida Dickerson Vaughn, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in
a Galax nursing home. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and
Ann Vaughn, Salma, NC; sister, Alice Quesenberry, Dugspur; brother, Elmo
Dickerson, La Plata, MD; grandson and wife, Robert and Cynthia Vaughn, Galax;
three step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000 at the Maberry Funeral Home
Chapel, Floyd. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Willis.

HAZEL WHITENACK AUSTIN
CHRISTIANSBURG-Hazel Whitenack Austin, 80, went to be with the Lord
Wednesday, January 26, 2000. She was the beloved wife of Cecil for 64 years,
and a dedicated homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and a special friend to all. She will be sadly missed. She was
the daughter of the late Chester and Gracie Vest Whitenack. Mrs. Austin is
survived by: her husband, Cecil R. (Bill) Austin of Christiansburg; son and
daughter-in-law, Lindsey R. and Barbara Austin, Salem; daughter and son-in-law,
Judy A. and Larry Atkinson, Elliston; grandchildren, Ronnie Austin, Austin,
