Pupils Consultation - Visit to Gleniffer High School
12 March 2010
A visit took place took to Gleniffer High School to provide pupils of Park Mains High with an
opportunity to talk to pupils at Gleniffer who had experience the new school and who could provide a
pupil perspective on the new Gleniffer High School
Following a short introduction given by the Head Teacher, Mr Dave Nicholls, the pupils were then
given a tour of the building after which a question and answer session took place.
Issues Observed During Tour
• Corridors a bit narrow
• Bottlenecks at particularly popular subject areas (watch)
• No lockers a big issue
• Pupil comment – Art is spacious
• Covers on fire alarm points
• Larger corridor space at T points and + points is required
• Smaller seats to accommodate more in staffroom would be better
• Open for all catering approach – Satellite stations offering baguettes
• S5 can use identified classrooms at lunchtime not in S6 common room
• Paths and straight lines between doors as pupils take shortest route
Question & Answer Session
Q. Were you involved in new school build
A. We were in P7 when construction took place - we just filtered into new school
Q. Any problems occur during construction
A. Only 2 minor incidents of pupils misbehaving at site
Q. Was it uncomfortable coming to a new school
A. No – wonderful some minor problems, but a clean fresh new school
Q. What is your favourite part of the new school
A. Social area (great atmosphere). Music loud.
Q. Are there any litter problems
A. Ok could be better. HT microphone, cleaner classes with bins – plenty bins
Q. What are the 3 worst aspects in the new school
A. Corridors are narrow, carrying PE bags all day (7 period day) some PE teachers allow bags to be
left in PE classroom – lockers would be a great benefit. Pupils carry bags at all times.
Q. Would it be better if you had lockers
A. Yes
Q. If you could add one thing, what would it be
