James LeCroy with a 258-278-268
for an 804 series at Brunswick
Zone Watauga Lanes. The Lecroy
family is legendary in Texas, father
James, mother Kat, daughter
Kathleen, and son Kris were the
second family of four to have all
shot a 300 game. Once Kathleen
shoots an 800 series, they will be
the sixth family to have achieved
that milestone as well.
What is your high series? 834
at Berry Bowl in 1981. I have 3
800’s.
How many 300’s have you
bowled? 30.
What ball did you throw? The
Ebonite Magic. It has turned out
to be a really good ball.
Who drills your balls? James
Askins for about 20 years.
What is your all-time favorite
bowling ball? The Bleeder Yellow
Dot.
What is your average in PBA
Experience league? 204.
What is your all-time high average?
231 at Forest Park Lanes,
back when you played the twig.
We always threw it up the first
and second board out there.
How long have you been bowling?
I started when I was 20, so 46
years now. I was in the military,
so we bowled on the base and
when I got back home I started
in a league.
What part of the lane were you
playing when you shot this series?
It was on the Cheetah pattern so
I was playing straight up three.
Everything just kept falling.
Who is your favorite pro
bowler? It boils down to Norm
Duke and Del Ballard Jr. I have
known them both since they
were teenagers.
Most memorable bowling moment?
It would be that first 300 in
1979 at Meadowbrook. I had the
first the nine strikes in league a
few days earlier, left an 8-10 split
and thought I would never shoot
300. But then three days later I
shot 300.
How many leagues do you
bowl in? I bowl in two leagues,
and have for probably about 20
years.
Other thoughts on the big
series? I bowled this in a PBA
Experience league where they
change the shot every two weeks.
I find this type of league much
more challenging and fun. This
night I got comfortable and loose
and bowled really well. I realized
that I needed to strike out in the
ninth and 10th for the 800, and it
felt really good to get it done.
Other thoughts? I would like
to say how much I have always
admired Bob McGregor and Greg
Derrick for the faith and how
they live it every day. I have
always had so much respect and
admiration for those two.

quality practice is the main thing,

where you don’t worry about the
score. That’s the main area that
really helped my game improve
from 190’s to the 200’s.
