Page 4 | Thursday, November 22, 2012 | THE BOWLING NEWS Storm National Mixed Championships comes to a close RENO, Nev. — <strong>The</strong> 2012 Storm National Mixed Championships ended in dramatic fashion as new leaders emerged in 10 divisions at the National <strong>Bowling</strong> Stadium during the tournament's final weekend. Jackie Wyckoff of Campbell, Calif., led the way as she captured the top spot in three events, while Renee Steele of Carson City, Nev., and John Bertolina of Henderson, Nev., each grabbed the lead in two events. All standings are considered unofficial until final verifications are made. Wyckoff, a <strong>Bowling</strong> Writers Association of America board member, had success at the Stadium earlier in the year as she helped Coefficient of Friction of Palo Alto, Calif., claim the Scratch Team title at the United States <strong>Bowling</strong> Congress Women's Championships. In her return visit to the one-of-a-kind Stadium, Wyckoff rolled games of 269, 231 and 225 for a 725 series to lead Anthony Simonsen outscored the competition again last week at Plano Super Bowl with a dual award-winning 279-300-278 = OPEN ON THANKSGIVING DAY Mixed Singles Women's Scratch and used an additional 20 pins of handicap per game to post the top score in Mixed Singles Women's Handicap with 785. She also teamed up with Steve Corsaro of Tracy, Calif., to record a 1,352 combined score to take over the lead in Mixed Doubles Scratch. Steele already had made a name for herself at the 2012 National Mixed Championships by rolling an 816 series and taking the lead in three events when she competed two weeks earlier. In her second effort at the "Taj Mahal of Tenpins," Steele grabbed the top spot in All-Events Women's Scratch with 2,043 as well as the lead in the Six-Game Scratch Singles event with 1,462. Steele ended the 2012 tournament leading four events. She also led Open Singles Women's Scratch and Handicap with scores of 816 and 852, respectively. In the Adult/ Youth Doubles Scratch division, Welby Spanton of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Bill Nichols of Roseville, Calif., worked together to post the high score with 1,258. Chris Klerk of Chandler, Ariz., made the biggest mark in 2012 as he sat atop the leaderboard in five divisions. He fired an 813 series on his winning 805 Pepsi Classic Series. Cindy Mann, from the Sportsman group, locked up the top score for the ladies with an impressive 226-222-233 = 681 set.
