1.10. Youth unemployment 2011 11
In 2011, the number of unemployed young people at the age between 15 and 25 was around
6,6% in Styria. This means that out 1000 young people 66 were unemployed, the remaining
were employed or in education process. Youth unemployment rates according to European and
Austrian methods are not calculated for the regions; they would be much higher than the share
of all young people indicated below.
Here, there are great regional differences relevant mainly for the region South-West Styria.
With 8,5%, the district Leibnitz has the highest share of unemployed young people of all young
people, in Deutschlandsberg the rate of 6,4% is already much lower. The lowest share of
unemployed young people was recorded in Weiz with only 4,8%.
In absolute number presented, there are currently 641 out of 8.418 young people between 14
and 25 in search for work in the region South-West Styria.
