Black C<strong>in</strong>ema Library, Mon.- 6 pm<br />
At its essence, North Starr is <strong>the</strong> story of a<br />
man runn<strong>in</strong>g from <strong>the</strong> past <strong>in</strong> an effort to fi nd himself.<br />
After a visually stunn<strong>in</strong>g open<strong>in</strong>g sequence,<br />
fi lled with symbolism and foreshadow<strong>in</strong>g, North<br />
Starr moves <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> familiar territory of a drug<br />
deal gone bad. Demetrious fl ees his troubled life <strong>in</strong><br />
Houston for <strong>the</strong> rugged landscape of East Texas after<br />
witness<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> brutal murder of a friend. The contrast<br />
between <strong>the</strong> open<strong>in</strong>g sequence and <strong>the</strong> murder is<br />
<strong>in</strong>dicative of <strong>the</strong> triumphs and failures of this movie.<br />
