Paper Cuts: Contemporary Draw<strong>in</strong>g At MOCA The Museum of Contemporary<br />

Art (MOCA) Jacksonville celebrates draw<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>the</strong> artist’s creative use of paper <strong>in</strong> a series of<br />

exhibitions titled Paper Cuts: Contemporary Draw<strong>in</strong>g at MOCA. And Fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Dew Drop Falls:<br />

Installations by Chris Natrop and Civitates Orbis Terrarum: Recent Works by John Bailly will be<br />

available for <strong>view</strong><strong>in</strong>g through August 31 at MOCA (333 North Laura St.) Natrop works on enormous<br />

sheets of paper that are stretched out on self-heal<strong>in</strong>g mats. Wield<strong>in</strong>g a standard utility<br />

knife, he spontaneously cuts away at <strong>the</strong> paper to create his organic forms. Many of <strong>the</strong> draw<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

are suspended from <strong>the</strong> ceil<strong>in</strong>g with wires and str<strong>in</strong>gs, and take on a sculptural presence,<br />

ultimately challeng<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> boundaries between two- and three-dimensional art. And Fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>the</strong> Dew Drop Falls was designed and created specifi cally for MOCA Jacksonville and is Chris Natrop’s fi rst<br />

large-scale museum exhibition. In Civitates Orbis Terrarum (Cities of <strong>the</strong> World), artist John Bailly exam<strong>in</strong>es<br />

<strong>the</strong> relationship of place and time <strong>in</strong> his multi-layered <strong>com</strong>positions. Bailly’s works depict cities derived from<br />

ancient maps and atlases that have ei<strong>the</strong>r been decisive <strong>in</strong> shap<strong>in</strong>g world history, conquered culturally or militarily,<br />

near his family home on <strong>the</strong> Gulf Coast of Mississippi that was lost to <strong>the</strong> ris<strong>in</strong>g fl ood waters of Hurricane Katr<strong>in</strong>a.<br />
