Recurrent PE<br />

Repeat pulmonary angiography with <strong>the</strong> finding<br />

<strong>of</strong> a new intraluminal filling defect or a new,<br />

sudden cut-<strong>of</strong>f in an arterial branch, not present<br />

on <strong>the</strong> first examination.<br />

Repeat sCT showing new embolism<br />

Repeat V/Q scan with <strong>the</strong> finding <strong>of</strong> a new<br />

perfusion defect, segmental or larger, with a<br />

ventilation mismatch<br />

Demonstration <strong>of</strong> fresh PE at autopsy<br />

DVT<br />

Ascending venography<br />

Compression ultrasonography (US) <strong>for</strong><br />

symptomatic, proximal DVT, but less adequate<br />

<strong>for</strong> distal DVT. Findings can interpreted by <strong>the</strong><br />

observer only, who should be carefully selected<br />

by <strong>the</strong> study co-ordinator<br />

Recurrent DVT<br />

New or extended intraluminal filling defect seen<br />

on at least two projections during repeat<br />

ascending venography<br />

New <strong>thrombosis</strong> on US examination, in <strong>the</strong> case<br />

<strong>of</strong> proximal DVT
